The Wild Fox Party

Tune in for a wide variety of roots music — including doo-wop, gospel, jazz, blues, rock 'n' roll, Latin, African, and hillbilly/country bluegrass — from the early 1920s to contemporary times. The Wild Fox Party focuses on vocal groups , small-group ensembles, and outstanding vocalists and instrumentalists who never or hardly ever get heard. The music provides a forum for learning about history and diverse cultures, and it does so through the exposure of music as art, highlighting points in time that will last forever via the medium of audio recordings.

The conversation explores the coalition’s mission to unite the Davis community by confronting intolerance, preventing hate, and promoting a civic culture that values diversity and inclusion in all forms. Alexandra also discusses the harmful idea of “permanent immigrants” — when people are still seen as outsiders even after generations in America.

Most of all, this is a story about the power of one woman’s voice and how determined action can help shape and strengthen an entire community.

This week on Listening Lyrics, it's the Alex Jenkins Trio! These Sacramento musicians are among the most talented in the region, truly creative, and promise music full of beautiful surprises. The trio's latest record, Black Bird, received a four-star review in All About Jazz and is being played on radio stations across the country. Due to his in-depth study of the music of different cultures, Alex’s playing transcends musical traditions and boundaries. His expression of rhythm is heavily influenced by his study of Tabla (a North Indian classical percussion instrument). As a result, he has become known for his creative approach to music and his unique ability to fuse rhythmic ideas from various disciplines into one cohesive sound.
