The Five Thirty visits Listening Lyrics, recorded on Mar 9th, 2018Fri, 03/09/2018 - 5:05pm | Pieter PastoorAfter rocking their homecoming dance in 2015, The Five Thirty - the name taken from the band's childhood area code - began concocting their diverse style, reminiscent of classic rock, pop and funk in a Heat Stroke inducing loft in Davis, California. The band owes their genre bending capability to a myriad of artists not limited to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Zeppelin, and Paramore. The powerful trio fronted by Ben Simmons (Vocals/Guitar) and joined by brother Brian Simmons (Drums) and Alex Timmons (Bass) all grew up in similar music circles, performing shows from a young age with their own separate groups at RockBand University. Ben began producing music professionally at fourteen and met Alex during a recording session. He has a strong musical gut coupled by a facility of the fretboard, and brings his experience with being a singer-songwriter to the band platform. |
David Jacobin Discusses Music and Activism. Their logo says it all "Our mission is to transform the hood for G.O.O.D. using urban agriculture as a tool for community engagement, empowerment and employment." |

Well known and respected in Northern California. Listening Lyrics was thrilled to have him on the show. Bill Dakin plays upright bass and acoustic guitar, and sings with local artists Rita Hosking, The Muddy Waders, and What’s Left. His love for roots music runs deep whether it is The Stanley Brothers, The Carter Family, or the Louvin Brothers, while his musical influences include Neil Young, Camper Van Beethoven, Miles Davis and Bill Frisell. |

Laura has released 11 CDs on major and minor labels, she has performed at nearly every great music festival in North America and Australia, she has composed commissioned music for dance and theater productions and is a published author. Sam Nelson shares his passion on Listening Lyrics recorded 2/2/18Fri, 02/02/2018 - 5:05pm | Pieter PastoorListen in as we talk with Sam Nelson and hear him play some original compisitions. Sam Nelson is a 21-year old student at UC Davis from Sacramento. He has been playing guitar for almost 10 years, and singing for 3 years. For Samual, music is the one thing that lets him truly live in the moment and feel catharsis. While performing his main goal is to express the truest meaning of the song. Samual will be spending the whole hour with us so plenty of time for him to sing a few songs. |

Additionally, I'll let you in on a secret, this was the first time that I listened to, not one, but two complete Rap songs -- and enjoyed them. :)
Loved the show and thoroughly enjoyed Cory. Tell him what Michael J Fox once said; "I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business." He was excellent.
