Tarek Isham found his musical voice while living in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward, where music and creativity make daily and deep impressions. Four years ago, he moved back to Clyde Park, Montana to help his mother with her Quarter Horse Ranch and to pursue an education in veterinary medicine, which subsequently brought him to Davis, California. Before moving, he played many nights and weekends in the Bozeman area in a duo called Cottonwood Line. Tarek plays guitar, harmonica, foot-pedal drums and sings songs–both original and old–in country, blues, gospel and folk styles. Look to catch one of his feel-like-dancing live shows and an upcoming demo album under the name Doc Tari, which was the name of a famous Quarter Horse. Visit Tarek on facebook @Doc Tari. Sam Griffith (Director of Jazz Ensembles), Christopher Castro (Doctoral Canadate) and Marti Sarigul-Klijn . We talked about their love of music, the UC Davis Music Dept. and so much more. Really our conversation was like a jazz performance - taking us to where our minds flowed. The UC DAVIS school of music does offer many concerts in a variety of genres. Alex Calatayud spreads his love of music - Jan 13th, 2017Fri, 01/13/2017 - 5:05pm | Pieter PastoorLISTEN NOW as Alex Elvis Calatayud explains building a musical bridge between Brazil and the USA. Listen in as Alex shares his story and introduces us to some new Brazilian musicians. We will be playing selections from the music of Nilton Rabello, Bororo, Marcus Biancardini and many more. From Goiânia, Brazil, the percussionist Alex Calatayud descends from a long line of musicians and is recognized as one of the most exciting and unique performers on the pandeiro(link is external) (Brazilian tambourine) as well as the timba(link is external). Alex has music in his blood: he is the youngest of three brothers, all of whom play music. Alex’s commitment to the tambourine, started around age 8. While most kids on his age were playing with toys or video games, young Alex was busy playing the pandeiro the Brazilian tambourine Alex left school after the fifth grade and started performing professionally at age 14 playing 5 nights a week with bossa nova groups in Bars and Hotels in Goiania Brazil(link is external), in California!!! Alex performed with his Band Boca Do Rio(link is external), Alex now travels back and forth between Brazil and the United States Creating a musical bridge between the two cultures, Alex plays all the Brazilian percussion of his native land. Descending from a long line of musicians, Alex continues the tradition in the Bay Area and regularly performs with many of the regions top Brazilian bands. |

Christopher Hunt is well known in and around northern California, having said that he graduated from a distinguished school (the University of the Pacific) with a masters degree in music. He has performed in numerous bands based in Davis, CA.(Gravy Nation, Tha Dirt Feelin) Chris slips easily in and out of genres such as pop, rock, jazz, funk. He also has a background in producing and feels at home behind the controls in a recording session. In all we have a musician well equipped to pursue a career in music. Thats why Chris relocated to New York City. Thats why we have Chris calling in from NYC to join us on the show today, lets explore his goals and motive for his move across the continent. Today, in New York Chris plays with several bands, Semaphore, Phonoscenes, Secret Creatures and Bottler.

Additionally, I'll let you in on a secret, this was the first time that I listened to, not one, but two complete Rap songs -- and enjoyed them. :)
