KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

Hosted by Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, Democracy Now is an award-winning syndicated news program that gives voice to perspectives rarely heard in corporate-sponsored media, including independent journalists, grassroots leaders and peace activists, artists, academics, independent analysts, and ordinary people from around the world.

Blue LIght Central

Every week, the big blue train we call the Blue Light Central rumbles out of the station for an hour-long ride through a landscape of blues, classic R&B, soul, gospel, zydeco, and low-down boogie. Mark Drnek is your ticket agent, porter, engineer, brakeman, and conductor on a weekly excursion through the vast music landscape.

Co-host Helen Forster lends her voice to both the spoken and musical portions of the show.

One of the offbeat ways to measure a town is to look at the variety, ambition and success of its live theater. Davis has been home to different theater startups this decade. Some endure and some have shut, but the creative impulse to bring more theater to Davis – and the belief that Davis will support the interest – continues. Today we talk with two people from the not-quite-2-year-old Bike City Theatre Company: J.R. Yancher, the producing artistic director, and Sarah Marsh-Krauter, the literary manager and dramaturg. They talk about the company’s Davis roots, what they want to achieve, the performances they’d like to bring to town, and their plans to engage UC Davis students – and to expand local audiences by attracting people who think live theater has nothing to offer them.

Cedar Cady spent the hour with us. Cedar is a Davis native and at a young age fell in love with the violin. Cedar talks about his life with music and his passion for playing. Currently he plays in and around the Sacramento area either by himself or with several groups that he adds his musical touch to. Listen in as he explains the difference between a violin and a fiddle. Schism is an old word, meaning two sides with strong opinions breaking apart. The term might now apply to the United Methodist Church, a denomination of 13 million members worldwide that faces dis-unifying over gay rights. Brandon Austin, pastor of the Davis Methodist congregation, talks about the dispute, why it matters to people who might never give a thought to church, how to wrestle with the question of which traditions to keep and which to discard, and the choice of the Davis church to align with the pro-LGBT “reconciling” movement more than 20 years ago.

Born on a mountain top , no no Brooklyn Brownsville East NY, raised on Jewish , African American and Latin music from the moment my ears were aware. Founder and vocal arranger for Frankie and The Fabletones, , acappella ensembles AKA, Spirit Feel, Full House, Doo Wop after Dark. Back in the 20th, hit recordings of Unchained Melody and Gloria and novelty versions of Hello Dolly and High Noon, with Vito and The Salutations. Been singing ever since i can recall, love to sing everything but especially the blues. Singing harmony instructor since 1956- in Davis since 1983, classes at Learning Exchange Experimental College Davis Art Center, currently pursuing a new career as a KDRT DJ.
