IMPLOSION is hosted by Nick Saloman, front person of The Bevis Frond. Born and raised in London, England, Nick started buying records as a small child in the late 1950s and began going to gigs and playing in bands as a teen in the late 60s. IMPLOSION is simply an hour of Nick playing the music that he loves (psychedelia, rock, folk, beat, jazz, soul, punk, and more), with a bit of chat thrown in for good measure. Nick says: "If I like it, then there have got to be a few other people who will too.

Praise Time with Preacher

Praise Time with Preacher

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Listening Lyrics had the oppurtunity to talk with someone about changing aspects of the world we live in. For you see this guest not only talks but he walks the talk.  David Jacobin uses his unique brand of Resistance Rock music to support social causes in the community, and promote the change he wishes to see in the world. In addition to not only hearing him play some tunes David will talk about a project he is deeply involved with. The Yisrael Family Farm. Their logo says it all "Our mission is to transform the hood for G.O.O.D. using urban agriculture as a tool for community engagement, empowerment and employment."

The Melon Ball Stage.jpg

Williams of Watermelon Music visits kdrt,

Wyatt Williams, the first and current manager of booking and promotions at Watermelon Music, shares with us the story of Davis' newest live music venue: The Melon Ball (short for The Melon Ballroom). Situated adjacent to the beloved Davis music store, Watermelon Music, The Melon Ball is a 100 person hall that greets is audiences and artists with a professional and humble vibe. Past performers at The Melon Ball have remarked on the space's beauty and feel. The current owner of the hall and Watermelon Music, Jeff Simons, opened the venue for the purpose of having a local space for music teachers to host recitals, receptions, and other performances. The hall has since begun to take its first steps into becoming a regular spot for supporting the arts in and around Davis.

For those outside the listening area Listening Lyrics is streamed live on KDRT.
