KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

Join host Beth Post as she features the unique sounds of Hawaiian music — from early icons of island music to today's innovators — exploring styles, the history of the genre, and revered songs and performers.

E-Town, taped before a live audience in Boulder, Colorado, features today’s top folk and Americana artists, along with information and discussions on the environment and conservation. Host Nick Forster nimbly walks the line between musician and radio journalist, playing guitar, mandolin, or lap steel with musical guests and then switching gears to engage artists in conversation. Co-host Helen Forster lends her voice to both the spoken and musical portions of the show.

When Bruce Gallaudet announced he was retiring as sports editor of the Davis Enterprise, I took the occasion to ask him to come on the show. He has had an eclectic career, and knows more stories than we could ever get to. Halfway through the interview he said his wife, Debbie Davis, has also decided to retire from the Enterprise on March 2, and that’s major news in Davis—she has been editor of the paper since taking over from Bruce in the early 1980s. Today's interview ended up in two halves. The first part is about sports, why it can produce such good journalism, and the large personalities it attracts. The second part is about changes in community journalism, the state of the Enterprise, the plan he and Debbie have to move to the San Francisco Peninsula after they retire, and more.

The Folk Brothers dedicate this week's program to this new, Grammy-nominated double album of 32 tracks of Appalachian ballads which originated both in the old (i.e., Scotland and England) and new worlds. The album, featuring artists including Rosanne Cash, Martin Simpson, Alice Gerrard, Jody Stecher, Doyle Lawson, is a fundraiser for the Great Smoky Mountains Association.

Soaring vocal harmonies and story-filled, poetic songwriting, Misner & Smith's sound harkens back to the bedrock of modern American rock and folk. Paying tribute to strong influences like Simon & Garfunkel, The Band, and Buffalo Springfield, they invent a sound all their own, seducing listeners with music that captures longing and belonging in the same moment. Their partnership in music is a search for meaning. The songs yearn for connection, ache for understanding, relish in mystery, and rejoice in creation. In a world that often feels to be crumbling down around us, they dig deep and find hope in simple things, in the beauty that surrounds us all.

As Cam and I have been getting ready to start our program, One Foundation, people have been asking us, "So is this a reggae show?" Our answer: No and Yes.

No, in the sense that we'll be playing a wide variety of musical styles from around the globe, especially from the Caribbean, Latin America, and the diasporas of those regions throughout the world. Reggae might be the majority of what we play, but you could say we're "hardly strictly reggae."
