Brett Vaughn (of The Mindful) Joins us in the Studio, Friday September 7, 2018, 4:00PM

Tue, 09/04/2018 - 9:39am | Pieter Pastoor

mindfull.jpg

The Mindfull visits KDRT

Brett Vaughn (of The Mindful ) uses his passion in music to "find meaning in an often meaningless culture". Brett says If experimentalism is defined as "the philosophical belief that the way to truth is through experiments and empiricism", then the Mindful aim to be a musical expression of this belief. Founded by Berklee College of Music alum Brett Vaughn, The Mindful plays with sounds, styles and musical approaches at will, making use of primarily rock and jazz influences while also offering funk and Americana vibes. Not merely instrumental-based music, Vaughn's colorful lyrics narrate a vast and varied display of songwriting prowess and discovery.

For those outside the listening area this broadcast will also be streamed on www.KDRT.org

Davisville, Sept. 3, 2018: What is housing in Davis worth these days?

Mon, 09/03/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

sold August 2018.jpg

Today I welcome back Steve Boschken, an expert in Davis real estate, for a talk about the Davis market, trends, when the next recession might arrive, who’s buying houses in Davis, how the new rental housing in the works might affect demand, the number of houses listed for more than $1 million (1 in 4), and if building small homes would help make housing more affordable in Davis … and whether voters would allow them. He says he knows an architect who has considered it in Davis.

Rob is the CEO of the F Street Dispensary in Davis which will open the end of September. Rob is a life long resident of Davis, I might even add a proud Davisitte. Listening Lyrics used the article "Use Weed To Listen To Music" by Andry Bourgue as a base of talking points.

Davisville, Aug. 20, 2018: For new council members, an agreement with UC Davis is a first priority

Mon, 08/20/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Gloria Partida, Dan Carson August 2018.jpg

Mayor Pro Tem Gloria Partida and Councilman Dan Carson joined the Davis City Council in July after winning election in June. On today’s program they talk about their first priorities, what the city needs from UC Davis (and perhaps what UC Davis wants from the city), the difficulty of engaging a largely disinterested public … and, because this is still a town where people contact council members over concerns as micro-local as barbecue smoke, the best ways to reach them, and how soon you'll hear back if you do.

Sam Nelson back in our studio, Listening Lyrics, Aug 17th, 2018

Fri, 08/17/2018 - 5:05pm | Pieter Pastoor

IMG_1856.jpg

Listen now as we talk with Sam Nelson on his second appearance with us.. Sam Nelson is based in Sacramento. For Samual, music is the one thing that lets him truly live in the moment and feel catharsis. While performing his main goal is to express the truest meaning of the song.  Sam sings 2 originals in this hour both songs do the title of this show justice, check out those lyrics.  The last song Sam sings is a Nirvana cover "pennyroyal Tea" and he nailed it.
