Each week Celtic Songlines takes a musical journey through the Celtic lands. This week's program features Robin Bullock & Steve Baughmann; Iona: America's  pan-Celtic band, featuring three wonderful selections from its album Silver;  Scotland's cherished vocalist Julie Fowlis; the band Flook; piper John McSherry; the Afro-Celt Song System; and (new on our playlist) singer and writer Amelia Coburn, pictured here.

Celtic Songlines April 20th 2021

The production of a program such as Celtic Songlines is often the result of a predetermined theme and other times pure serendipity.  This week it's the latter, the program developed as I listened to the artistry of brilliant Irish guitarist Arty McGlynn. I've wanted to produce a program featuring a sampling of several well-known guitarists working within the world of Celtic music. There are too many to feature within a single 58 minute program so consider this the first of several with future programs also featuring fiddlers and pipers.

This week, in addition to Arty McGlynn, we'll hear from John Doyle, John Renbourn, Bert Jansch, Welsh guitarist Gwenifer Raymond, Al Petteway and Tony McManus.

Tune in live on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to Noon at KDRT 95.7FM, stream at kdrt.org or subscribe to the "Celtic Songlines" podcast on iTunes

Replays KDRT 95.7FM Thursday 6-7pm, Sunday 4-5pm and Monday 11pm-12am.

Clann An Drumma share a tune of the Ghosts of Culleden and we wrap it up with a fine Irish tune from a fine local band, Donut Exchange.

Celtic Songlines, March 16, 2021: Live tunes to celebrate St. Paddy's Day

This week on Celtic Songlines we'll feature live tunes and songs that reflect the magic of Ireland and celebrate St. Paddy's Day. You'll tune in to hear live sets from Solas, The Clancy Brothers, The Dubliners, Banshee in the Kitchen, Tempest, Clannad, The Chieftains and Patrick Street.

Celtic Songlines, March 2, 2021: Traditional tunes with a twist

This week on Celtic Songlines, Ireland's Fullset opens the program and is followed by tunes from the exciting trio Inver. Guitarist Arty McGlynn shows why he was one of the most influentional musicians in the modern era--ditto for vocalist Christy Moore. Scotland's The Shee join the program too, along with Solas, Karan Casey & John Doyle, Toni and David Arthur, and the Old Blind Dogs.

During the always special month of March, Celtic Songlines will feature artists' performances of traditional tunes and the sometimes contemporary twist to "trad" music. The exploration of traditional Celtic songs and arrangements is always fascinating, as is listening to the musicians' special talents and skills. They interpret and rearrange traditional songs and tunes to place their own stamp on the music.
