Celtic Songlines, March 16, 2021: Live tunes to celebrate St. Paddy's Day

This week on Celtic Songlines we'll feature live tunes and songs that reflect the magic of Ireland and celebrate St. Paddy's Day. You'll tune in to hear live sets from Solas, The Clancy Brothers, The Dubliners, Banshee in the Kitchen, Tempest, Clannad, The Chieftains and Patrick Street.

Celtic Songlines, March 2, 2021: Traditional tunes with a twist

This week on Celtic Songlines, Ireland's Fullset opens the program and is followed by tunes from the exciting trio Inver. Guitarist Arty McGlynn shows why he was one of the most influentional musicians in the modern era--ditto for vocalist Christy Moore. Scotland's The Shee join the program too, along with Solas, Karan Casey & John Doyle, Toni and David Arthur, and the Old Blind Dogs.

During the always special month of March, Celtic Songlines will feature artists' performances of traditional tunes and the sometimes contemporary twist to "trad" music. The exploration of traditional Celtic songs and arrangements is always fascinating, as is listening to the musicians' special talents and skills. They interpret and rearrange traditional songs and tunes to place their own stamp on the music.

Celtic Songlines

On this week's Celtic Songlines KDRT 95.7FM tune into the rich and strange musical traditions from across the Celtic lands, music which reflect struggles and the supernatural.

We spin the turntable with the UK's Iona, Ireland's FullSet and from Scotland, Battlefield Band. Clannad Irish Band weights in as well, along with Dublin's LANKUM, FAUN, Damh the Bard and Alasdair Fraser with Tony McManus.

Celtic Songlines Feb 9, 2021- An Interview with Rebecca Lomnicky, Fiddler from Scottish Trio "The Fire"

This week we feature The Fire's new album "Marigold" and interview band member Rebecca Lomnicky. The Fire is a high energy traditional music band that combines world class performances of blazing Scottish music with a distinctly Californian flare. The group includes our guest today  International Scottish Fiddle Champion Rebecca Lomnicky, dynamic bagpiper and multi-instrumentalist David Brewer, and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate Adam Hendey on guitar, bouzouki, and harmonium. All three band members have lived and studied in Scotland, and work together to further contribute to the traditions of Scottish music in America through performances and tours, as well as workshops funded by agencies such as the National Endowment for the Arts.  New releases from artists are a reminder that despite the difficult year musicians continue to create fine music.

Celtic Songlines - Feb 2, 2021 - Something Old/Something New

This week's theme can be described as "something old and something new."

I hope you join me this week as Celtic Songlines features some amazing musicians such as Ireland's Beoga, Karan Casey & John Doyle, singer extraordinaire Niamh Parsons, from the UK the bands Flook, Salt House and Leveret. The piping of Martyn Bennet and, locally, Tempest alumni the Mullen Jones Project.

Celtic Songlines

This week's Celtic Songlines features a set of tunes from "Marigold," a brand new album from the excellent Celtic-California band The Fire. We'll also hear from Cillian Vallely, a master musician with the uillieann pipes. English folk band Kerfuffle is on the playlist as is Scotland's Malinky, Old Blind Dogs and Whistlebinkies. As an added treat Fairport Convention with Sandy Denny perform Reynardine from the album Liege & Lief.
