Chris Hunt on KDRT 1/6/17

Christopher Hunt is well known in and around northern California. He graduated from a distinguished school (the University of the Pacific) with a master's degree in music. He has performed in numerous bands based in Davis (Gravy Nation, Tha Dirt Feelin), and slips easily in and out of genres such as pop, rock, jazz, and funk. He also has a background in producing, and feels at home behind the controls in a recording session. In all we have a musician well equipped to pursue a career in music. That's why Chris relocated to New York City. That's why we have Chris calling in from NYC to join us on the show today; let's explore his goals and motive for his move across the continent.

Today, in New York, Chris plays with several bands: Semaphore, Phonoscenes, Secret Creatures and Bottler.

For those outside the listening area, the show will stream live on www.kdrt.org

David Bowie - Blackstar - Album of the Week January 5

Blackstar-copy.jpg

Blackstar

Blackstar was released on David Bowie's 69th birthday (January 8, 2016), just two days before he died. As we approach the album’s one-year anniversary and Bowie's 70th birthday, it feels like a fine time to feature it on Album of the Week. I’ve listened to the album only a few times and am intrigued, but not yet intimately familiar or attached.

TO ALL DONORS- Thank you! KDRT reaches fundraiser goal!

KDRT-LPFM in Davis, CA is proud to announce we surpassed our Boost the Signal fundraising goal!    Through the generosity of donors throughout Davis and beyond, we were able to raise close to $6,000.   This will allow KDRT to improve our transmission system.

"I'm really jazzed that the station will be able to upgrade to a new antenna," says Live Tracks host Jim Buchanan, "one that will deliver that high-quality sound we love throughout Davis."

KDRT plans to work on the engineering for this upgrade throughout winter, with installation in spring.

We'd love to thank all of our donors, bands that came by to help raise the money, Eunah Cho for designing our special t-shirt graphic, and every person that filled out a survey to help assess our coverage.

Speaking of the survey, volunteer Diane Crumley says "I'm thrilled by the response rate and large number who reported listening in their cars, since a new antenna will improve drive time listening throughout Davis!"

Davis Flagg cover art

Well, SOMEone was a little slow on the draw this week, didn't get a blog post up in time to announce this week's installment of Divine Intervention. But that's OK, because the Internet is like a freaking TIME MACHINE. That's right, through the miracle of modern technology, you can still here this week's DI as a podcast here. Why should you do that? Well, just look at this week's Vinyl Vespers feature. Right? Right!

Album of the Week (12/8) Akron/Family ~ Love Is Simple

As 2016 comes to a close, I've found myself singing some of the lyrics to the 2007 release by Akron/Family; primarily the words sung in the opener "go out and love, love, love everyone..." which is repeated throughout the bookend tracks (and apparently the recipe for getting through tough times in the world). Or the three words of the album title, which stretch longingly in the 3rd song, Don't Be Afraid, You're Already Dead.

Love Is Simple ~ chaos, rock action, tribal bongo-banging, sentimental sing-alongs and pop gems galore. A cast of thousands live and breed inside... (from the sticker on my shrinkwrap). "The most beautiful thing about the Akron/Family is that they are virtually unclassifiable. Is it rock? Post-rock? Acid folk? Freak folk? Free improvisation? Ultimately, who cares what it is, that it IS is what matters most..." ~ All Music Guide
