Welcome to an hour of Listening Lyrics, right here on KDRT 95.7 FM in Davis, California.
No musical passports required. Folk can sit next to funk, jazz can dance with rock, and a singer-songwriter might end up sharing a park bench with a reggae band. Listening Lyrics is your invitation to escape the noise of the day and enter a world of elaborate sounds, unexpected discoveries, and songs that have something to say.
This is the kind of journey only commercial-free community radio can provide.
So close your eyes. Open your ears. Relax your mind. Join me, Pieter Pastoor, as we send color to your ears and wander through the vast landscape of music and lyrics—the grand meeting place of rhythm, imagination, and the remarkable human ability to create art. Whether it's a whisper, a roar, a groove, or a melody you've never heard before, it all belongs here.
Remember: Real Music. Real Community. Real Good Music.

For Opa, from Wyatt, on Listening Lyrics, Dec. 30, 2022Fri, 12/30/2022 - 5:10pm | Pieter PastoorA few weeks ago I was in Portland visiting my daughter and her family. While there, I drove my grandson to high school every morning. He would hop into the car and link his phone to my radio, and off we went, listening to his music. Wyatt is 15, and I really liked his music selections. I asked him to send me some of his playlist, and that is what you will hear on this hour of Listening Lyrics. It's a rather sophisticated selection of music old and new, and perfect for my last show in 2022. Thank you, Wyatt. Happy New Year all, Pieter |
The Next Noel with Billy Larkin, on Listening Lyrics, Dec. 23, 2022Fri, 12/23/2022 - 5:10pm | Pieter PastoorThis holiday CD is a rare beauty. There's such depth to this music, a limitless well of music and sounds. It defies a genre, but let's just say it's a mix of jazz, electronica, and classical. Ekimi is a duo originally from Cincinnati, comprised of Billy Larkin (piano and synthesizer) and Chris Dahlgren (bass, electronic sarod and percussions). Both Billy and Chris are classically trained. Billy joins me in the studio to share his thoughts on this truly wonderful CD. |

What can I say; I LOVED THIS SHOW!
Additionally, I'll let you in on a secret, this was the first time that I listened to, not one, but two complete Rap songs -- and enjoyed them. :)
Loved the show and thoroughly enjoyed Cory. Tell him what Michael J Fox once said; "I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business." He was excellent.
the October 3rd show was way too short. What a mellow and superbly classy hour that just blew by. Thanks!
