'Divine Intervention' Strikes - M 10/10 7-9p PT

Mon, 10/10/2016 - 6:31pm | Jess Goddésse

snuffgarrett.jpg

Snuff Garrett cover art

This week on Divine Intervention, we'll do the new music thang, with lots of rock and pop and maybe some punk and probably some r&b -- you know the drill. "Vinyl Vespers" will be a true surprise -- we have no idea if the pictured album is good, bad, an extreme version of either of those adjectives, or blandly somewhere in between. Yes, we could have educated ourselves about the artist, but hostesse Jess Goddesse likes to be (un)pleasantly surprised along with the audience, and so we'll all hear it together, probably for the first time on DI, unless you happen to be in the know on ol' Snuff. Tune in live, 7-9p Pacific. Want replays/playlists? Visit the program page.

Davisville, Oct. 3, 2016: The Death Café, in Davis

Mon, 10/03/2016 - 6:50pm | Bill Buchanan

Davis 092916.jpg

We all face it. It could do us some good to talk more about it. That’s the premise behind the Death Café, where people meet without a program, agenda, or speaker, to talk about death. The next Death Café in Davis is Nov. 6, and on today’s show we talk with two people organizing the event: Elizabeth Banks, senior minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, and Kristi Dvorak, community outreach director of the Davis Cemetery District and Arboretum.

Tune in to Divine Intervention for a random and rare mix of music -- much new, much rock and pop, mostly stellar... And then, of course, there'll be a blessedly short interlude for our "Vinyl Vespers" feature. This week's pick is pictured here. Let's hope Dr. Evans can give us some sound advice on "the most important institution in the home." Tune in live, 7-9p Pacific. Want replays/playlists? Visit the program page.

The Lique Live on KDRT!

Fri, 09/30/2016 - 12:50pm | Dug Deep

TheLique.jpg

The Lique photo

Hip-hop/jazz/funk band The Lique (pronounced "leek") will be stopping by KDRT on Friday, Sept 30th, at 1:00 pm to talk with host Dug Deep about the recent release of their debut album, Democracy Manifest. They'll also tell us about some local shows they have lined up, including a performance Friday night at Harlow's in Sacramento.

The Lique hails from Las Vegas, but vocalist/poet Rasar Amani is a native of Sacramento who released 10 albums of hip-hop fused with social commentary and politics while living hereabouts. The Lique gives Rasar's image-filled lyrics a whole new dynamic, and the result is poignant, raucous, and always danceable. Tune in and hear for yourself.

Bumptet visits Listening Lyrics on KDRT Friday 10/30/16 at 4:00PM

Thu, 09/29/2016 - 4:56pm | Pieter Pastoor

Bumptet.jpg

Bumptet to appear on KDRT 95.7 Davis, CA

Groove masters The Bumptet  bring reckless sophistication to each performance with an improvisational, genre-bending approach to music. Their compositions range in style and complexity, moving from deep funk grooves to epic rock crescendos to intricate, fusion-esque lines and back again–with improvisation, forward motion, and an in-the-moment attitude as the only constants.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of John Scofield, MMW, Garaj Mahal, the Headhunters, and Phish, the Northern California quintet takes listeners on a spirited journey that must be seen live in order to fully appreciate the level of musicianship and soul they bring to every show.  But don’t expect to hear carbon copy renditions of their tunes on stage.  The Bumptet pride themselves on delivering high energy, improvised sets of funk music with skillfully adept execution (including the occasional foray into the jam band outer stratosphere!).
