KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

Eye on Sports

Eye On Sports is a talk radio show focused on local sports in the Sacramento/Davis area that occasionally covers National Sports. Hosts Chuck and Cody have been involved with sports both nationally and locally for more than 15 years and want to share their opinions and initiate discussion to the public through conversation and occasional outside interviews. This show will not be politically driven in anyway. The conversation will cover the results , local impact, business and psychology of sports.

IMPLOSION

IMPLOSION is hosted by Nick Saloman, front person of The Bevis Frond. Born and raised in London, England, Nick began buying records as a small child in the late 1950s, then moved on to going to gigs and playing in bands as a teenager in the late ’60s. IMPLOSION is simply an hour of Nick playing the music he loves – psychedelia, rock, folk, beat, jazz, soul, punk, and more – with a bit of chat thrown in for good measure.

E-Town, taped before a live audience in Boulder, Colorado, features today’s top folk and Americana artists, along with information and discussions on the environment and conservation. Host Nick Forster nimbly walks the line between musician and radio journalist, playing guitar, mandolin, or lap steel with musical guests and then switching gears to engage artists in conversation. Co-host Helen Forster lends her voice to both the spoken and musical portions of the show.

Many Folk/Americana musicians -- like those featured on today's show -- have never shied away from calling out hypocrisy and injustice. Jackson Brown has long championed the anti-war movement. Iris DeMent (pictured here) advocates for women's rights. And Jason Isbell has challenged the intolerance and ignorance of many country music fans: recently he has advocated for proof of vaccinations to attend his live perfromances. Davisville, Sept. 6, 2021: Latest effort to reduce homelessness in Davis is taking shape on H Street

A firm number is hard to come by, but there are probably at least 200 homeless people in Davis. Paul's Place is the latest resource to help them get off the street. It will offer tiny apartments, transitional housing, and services, and it replaces an old, former house where Davis Community Meals and Housing has been offering help for more than 20 years.

On today's Davisville, DCMH Executive Director Bill Pride talks about Paul's Place, why it's named for his dad, the current state of homelessness in town, the effect of the pandemic, and a few insights he's learned over the years while seeking to help the homeless in Davis.

Covid started and we ended up wearing masks. I really never owned a mask before but now I have a box of them in the house and many more in my car. So of course I had to do a show on masks -- not only the type I have in my box, but the masks we wear to present ourselves to the world or to hide behind.

Great songs will take us on the musical journey of masks.

That's Life with David Hosley

David Hosley had led a very full life. Lois could have interviewed him about many many different things and filled up a show -- his long media career (starting at age 12!), being a renowned investigative reporter, teaching at various colleges and universities, UC administration, managing LOTS of radio and tv stations, producing six documentaries, training journalists in ethics, heading non-profits, talking about the history of migration into California and the challenges of life in the San Joaquin valley, and sharing thoughts on community, economy, social assumptions, and why people work after retirement. As I say, we COULD have filled up an hour on any of those. Instead, because we met working together on a project of the Davis Genealogy Club, we started with family history and went from there.

So how do I know all those other things about David Hosley? We actually touch on them all during this show! Jam-packed and fully loaded, this episode is definitely a keeper.
