Born and raised in London, England, Nick started buying records as a small child in the late 1950s and began going to gigs and playing in bands as a teen in the late 60s. IMPLOSION is simply an hour of Nick playing the music that he loves (psychedelia, rock, folk, beat, jazz, soul, punk, and more), with a bit of chat thrown in for good measure. Nick says: "If I like it, then there have got to be a few other people who will too.

COVID-19 Community Report, March 30, 2021: Davis Enterprise reporter, Anne-Ternus-Bellamy

Tue, 03/30/2021 - 12:40pm | Autumn Labbe-Renault

COVID-19-Anne-T-B-Enterprise-sq (2).jpg

This past year, Anne Ternus-Bellamy and I have sent each other occasional notes of encouragement as we've both covered the pandemic and its impact here in Yolo County. I talk to people about their experiences, while Anne has been deeply immersed reporting on the phenomenal rate of daily information generated by public health agencies and local government.

Anne grew up in San Anselmo, CA, where she first started writing for newspapers. She graduated with a degree in journalism from Northwestern University, and afterwards headed to Sacramento to work for a legal newspaper covering the state Capitol and courts. She took a long break from working full time — about 10 years — to stay home with her kids, though she still freelanced for the Enterprise and other publications and spent many years volunteering with Davis schools.

Davisville, March 29, 2021: Nerve Wrackin’ Theatre comes to Davis

Mon, 03/29/2021 - 5:30pm | Bill Buchanan

Lord Blood-Rah.jpeg

It’s been a nerve-wracking year, so maybe we could use some Nerve Wrackin’ Theatre. And that’s what we now have, thanks to today’s guest and Davis Media Access. In March, DMA began airing a syndicated show by the name of Lord Blood-Rah's Nerve Wrackin’ Theatre that observes the late-night tradition of airing monster and sci-fi movies, sometimes of terrible quality, for fun, humor, diversion, and occasionally an insight or two. Host Frank Wallace-Ailsworth, aka Lord Blood-Rah, hosts the program from his home in the Bay Area.

In Davis, you can find his show at 10:30 p.m. Saturdays on DCTV (channel 15 on Comcast, menu 99 on ATT U-Verse); listen to this interview to find out why on earth you might want to.

For more about the program, including viewing options if you don't have cable, see http://www.lordbloodrah.com/

The music around us in everyday items, on Listening Lyrics

Fri, 03/26/2021 - 4:00pm | Pieter Pastoor

IMG_7019.jpeg

This week Listening Lyrics plays tunes that include everyday nonmusical instruments, like the anvil. We open the show with a song (that you probably know) using an anvil.

Other songs use such items as a lighter, typewriter, chainsaw, elevator shaft, Coke cans, factory sounds, saws and wine glasses.

Listen and enjoy!

Davis Garden Show March 25 2021

Thu, 03/25/2021 - 12:00pm | Don Shor

KDRT_DGS_Drought-March2021.png

Don and Lois talk about a wide variety of Spring gardening topics!  Starting off with a mention of the warm weekend temperatures forecast, and about the latest update regarding California's ongoing drought, two years running. Today, the statewide figures are updated showing our region in "extreme drought" due to the low rainfall during our "typical" rain season September - March. Don talks about how this can especially impact our trees and other plants, and gives some watering advice. And of course, a return to the frequently asked questions such as: When is it best plant tomatoes? Mid-April! The Davis Garden Show airs live on KDRT 95.7 FM each Thursday noon - 1 PM, and replays Saturday monings 9 - 10 AM.

COVID-19 Community Report, March 23rd, 2021: Yolo County Children's Alliance director of programs Jeneba Lahai

Tue, 03/23/2021 - 12:40pm | Autumn Labbe-Renault

COVID-19-YCCA-Jeneba-16x9.jpg

I became aware of Jeneba Lahai and her work with Yolo County Children's Alliance (YCCA) a few weeks ago when she spoke on a panel hosted by Yolo Community Foundation. She is the director of programs for YCCA, which helps families, particularly non-English speaking families, access services, learn valuable parenting skills, and find support. As an immigrant herself (she is originally from Sierra Leone, West Africa), Jeneba has particular insight into immigrant families' needs during the pandemic.
