Praise Time with Preacher

Praise Time with Preacher

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Davisville, 9/7/15: Understanding the new J & Covell

Mon, 09/07/2015 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Person on bike using bike lane headed westbound.jpg

Been through the new “Dutch intersection” at J and Covell yet? The city rebuilt this busy crossroads near the new Cannery housing development in order to slow and improve the safety of right-hand turns by cars and trucks, make bicyclists more visible, and shorten the distance that cyclists and pedestrians must cross to clear the traffic lanes. It represents the continued reshuffle of bikes, cars and foot traffic in Davis, and there’s more to come. On today’s show we talk about the intersection, how it works, feedback from its first month, and what’s next, with Robb Davis, Davis mayor pro tem and an experienced bicyclist himself.

Ruby Mountain String Band visits KDRT

Ever heard of  "Old time Americana Fusion" want to know what it sounds like? Join us with the Ruby Mountain String Band. Once upon a time, in a town called Haiku (spelled backwards) four devotees of trad music bumped into each other in an organic food co-op; one was a cellist, one a fiddler, two played guitars, banjoes and sang. A banjo player and guitarist also favored song writing. All liked CapeBreton/scottish fiddle tunes. So, how many musicians walked into the co-op?.

Cliff Landis - Guitar, Vocals, Banjo and Fiddle, Julia Landis - Guitar, Vocals, Darin Smith - Cello, other things.

Mon, 08/24/2015 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

RichiePromo2.jpg

Today's show wraps up my interview with Richie Furay, who co-founded the bands Buffalo Springfield and Poco, and recently played in Sacramento with his current group, the Richie Furay Band (here's part 1 of the interview). Today he talks about his latest CD Hand in Hand, playing with Keb' Mo', his signature song "Kind Woman," and one of his Christian songs, "Through It All." He also tells the story about the band he and Gram Parsons--another major musician from the 1960s--talked about forming, as well as why they decided it wouldn't work.

Shawzam hosts Zappaman this week for a special talk about lemons, window screens, mosaics, & the tea bells you hear after eating crumpets.  Hot Rats is the soundtrack to baby possum gangs "just trying to get by"- all while sticking it to the man.   Who is the man?    Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Don "Sugarcane" Harris, Jean-Luc Ponty, and former Mother Ian Underwood all contribute.    What does this all have to do with Captain Kangaroo?   Tune in this Thursday at 5pm to find out.

Stephen Hendry visits KDRT

Let's talk about guitar riffs and guitarists that set music on fire. Stephen Hendry, 23  from Lodi, CA, is our guest this Friday. His earliest influences are pop-punk bands like The Offspring, New Found Glory, Sum 41, and Blink 182, but today he follows bands and artists like Airbourne, Social Distortion, and Frank Turner. Stephen’s  musical interests are based in punk, metal, and especially rock'n'roll, with a touch of blues and pop. Stephen’s most profound influences are Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, and Mike Ness. Stephen plays around the Sacramento area, either jamming with or backing up most of the local musicians on the scene. Whether practicing or keeping busy with gigs, his motivation always boils down to the fact that he loves to play and takes pride in his abilities.
