Hello Davis! spotlights the people and organizations that help define the character of our town. Each week, one of the follow local community organizations hosts the program in rotation, interviewing guests connected to their work — sharing stories, highlighting their programs, and offering a closer look at how they serve Davis.
- Davis Senior Center, hosted by Maria Lucchesi
- Downtown Davis Business Association, hosted by Brett Lee
- Davis Phoenix Coalition, hosted by Anoosh Jorjorian
- Davis Local, hosted by David Abramson
- My Davis California, hosted by Richard Jia and Gray Eby
The goal of Hello Davis! is to give listeners a deeper understanding of what makes these organizations tick and — in turn — what makes our community the vibrant place it is. Tune in every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on KDRT 95.7 FM and KDRT.org. Replays are avaiable anytime via the website.
Hello Davis! is produced by Pieter Pastoor, with theme music — “Mockingbird Rag” — written and performed by Davis’ own Roger Kunkel.

Hello Davis!, Feb. 25, 2026: The legal and moral aspects of facial recognitionThu, 02/26/2026 - 11:03am | Pieter PastoorToday's subject is facial recognition, a biometric AI technology that maps facial features from photos or video to verify or identify individuals by comparing them against a database. It operates in three main steps: capturing an image, measuring landmarks (like distance between eyes) to create a digital signature, and comparing it to stored. The question is, should the public be aware and approve of our facial recognition being used for any number of activities? Nick Buxton is interviewed by David Abramson. Nick is the communications manager for the Transnational Institute. He is the founding editor of its yearly State of Power Report, which looks at global power dynamics on key issues such as finance, digitalization, corporations, and more. He is also a Davis resident, husband, and father. |
