KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

Independent and Local is a music program featuring local unsigned artists and bands, including "Moments" — brief interviews with experts in the scientific, health, and artistic communities about interesting topics and current events. The main focus is music, along with a few outside-the-box ideas.

So, how many hours have you spent today being entertained by images on your phone or laptop? Maybe more than you know or want. Today’s guests have a remedy for that—they decided to turn off their screens each weeknight for a week at 6 p.m., and invited others in Davis to do the same. Today five of the members of Davis Girl Scout Troop 1999, all 10 to 11 years old, and parent leader Jacqui Alldritt (in the back), talk about how the experience changed them, the response from friends and classmates, and the value of looking away from YouTube so you can do something else. They played with friends, read, talked and spent time talking with their families. Some have dogs who were happy to get their attention back!

Man, look at all the KEYS on that thing -- that sure is one big organ, and it's sure to be featured during Vinyl Vespers on Divine Intervention, airing this evening from 7 to 9p on KDRT. Extending far beyond big organs, there will be much new music -- maybe even more than last week, if that's humanly possible. We'll probably start with rock/pop but who knows where we'll end... Gabriel Reynolds is one of those musicians that when he plays he is in the moment. He also creates that moment. His love and choice of instruments are guitar, mandolin and viola.. Hailing from Davis and now also a student at UC Davis he says he is so invested in music at this point there's no backing out. His music spreads his love to friends and family.
