Davisville, April 13, 2020: Davis stores and restaurants cope with the pandemic

Mon, 04/13/2020 - 6:10pm | Bill Buchanan

temporarily closed 041120.jpg

Today I talk with Davis Enterprise retail business columnist Wendy Weitzel about how local restaurants and retailers are coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. We discuss stories of struggle, creativity, and most of all uncertainty, plus thoughts about how retail might change even after the stay-at-home public health orders are lifted. She has written her Comings & Goings column for nearly 20 years and normally posts a new column every other week, but is writing weekly during the pandemic.

COVID-19 Community Report Episode 7: Speaking With Davis Teacher's Association on Distance Learning and Winters' City Council on Apr 7th, 2020

Tue, 04/07/2020 - 12:40pm | Autumn Labbe-Renault

KDRT-fb-COVID-19-Episode-7-April-7 (2).jpg

For Episode 7, guests include Victor Lagunes, President of the Davis Teacher's Association, and Jesse Loren, Winters City Councilmember. We hear about how Davis teachers have been working hard behind-the-scenes as the Davis Joint Unified School District ramps up to launch online instruction next week, and also discuss the recent narrow passage of Measure G.

From Councilmember Loren, we hear how our neighbors to the west in Winters are faring as their small businesses, restaurants, wineries/breweries adapt to the shelter-in-place directive.  Several wonderful creative partnerships have evolved such as Yolo Food Bank getting delivery  support from the experienced Yolobus drivers, and a new "pick up" partnership between Steady Eddy's coffee and Turkcovich Family Winery, to name a few.

Tune in live at noon on Tuesdays and Fridays at KDRT 95.7FM or here on kdrt.org, and catch replays Tuesdays and Fridays at 5 pm. and Sundays at noon.

Davisville, March 23, 2020: Sacramento Bee Editor Lauren Gustus

Mon, 03/23/2020 - 6:10pm | Bill Buchanan

Sacramento Bee digital front page 032320.png

I set up this interview before the coronavirus pandemic hit, to talk about the Bee, community journalism, the move from print to digital, its interest in Davis, and the financial problems that have eroded the newspaper and led its owner, McClatchy, to file for bankruptcy. This interview, recorded the afternoon of March 22,  still touches on those subjects, but we devote the first part of the show to how the Bee is covering the pandemic, including how it decides what stories to pursue beyond the obvious ones, and the kinds of articles its readers are asking for.
