Roots, Shoots and Leaves

Roots, Shoots and Leaves' DJ Tree has a theory of music that involves a tree. Suffice it to say that it involves a trinity — an exploration of themes and connections among recording artists — and otherwise very few boundaries. Listen for music old and new, known and unknown. And if you listen long enough, you may experience some musical enlightenment.

Live Tuesday 6-8pm
Replays Saturday 7-9pm

Praise Time with Preacher

Praise Time with Preacher

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Live Tuesday 4-5pm
Replays Thursday 11pm-Friday 12am, Sunday 7-8am

Chris Hunt Returns to Listening Lyrics from NYC, Jan. 6, 2017, at 4 PM

Fri, 01/06/2017 - 10:13am | Pieter Pastoor

Chris Hunt on KDRT 1/6/17

Christopher Hunt is well known in and around northern California. He graduated from a distinguished school (the University of the Pacific) with a master's degree in music. He has performed in numerous bands based in Davis (Gravy Nation, Tha Dirt Feelin), and slips easily in and out of genres such as pop, rock, jazz, and funk. He also has a background in producing, and feels at home behind the controls in a recording session. In all we have a musician well equipped to pursue a career in music. That's why Chris relocated to New York City. That's why we have Chris calling in from NYC to join us on the show today; let's explore his goals and motive for his move across the continent.

Today, in New York, Chris plays with several bands: Semaphore, Phonoscenes, Secret Creatures and Bottler.

For those outside the listening area, the show will stream live on www.kdrt.org

Davisville, Jan. 2, 2017: Equipping Davis Bikes with Theft Detectors

Mon, 01/02/2017 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Bike Tile.jpg

The Davis Bike Club wants you to attach a Tile detection device to your bicycle, so that the device can tell you where your bike is if it gets stolen (only the bike owner is notified). The club will even give you the Tile, if you want. The main goal is to deter thieves and reduce one of Davis' major kinds of crime. But wouldn’t thieves just remove the device? And would police really respond to a report that a stolen bike had been located? On today’s show Phil Coleman, club president and a former Davis police chief, answers these questions, and explains how and why this "Tile the City" program should work. When it catches its first thief, he says, expect to hear a lot more about it.

TO ALL DONORS- Thank you! KDRT reaches fundraiser goal!

Tue, 12/13/2016 - 9:39pm | Jeff Shaw

Screen Shot 2016-12-11 at 10.10.21 PM.png

KDRT-LPFM in Davis, CA is proud to announce we surpassed our Boost the Signal fundraising goal!    Through the generosity of donors throughout Davis and beyond, we were able to raise close to $6,000.   This will allow KDRT to improve our transmission system.

"I'm really jazzed that the station will be able to upgrade to a new antenna," says Live Tracks host Jim Buchanan, "one that will deliver that high-quality sound we love throughout Davis."

KDRT plans to work on the engineering for this upgrade throughout winter, with installation in spring.

We'd love to thank all of our donors, bands that came by to help raise the money, Eunah Cho for designing our special t-shirt graphic, and every person that filled out a survey to help assess our coverage.

Speaking of the survey, volunteer Diane Crumley says "I'm thrilled by the response rate and large number who reported listening in their cars, since a new antenna will improve drive time listening throughout Davis!"

Well, SOMEone was a little slow on the draw this week, didn't get a blog post up in time to announce this week's installment of Divine Intervention. But that's OK, because the Internet is like a freaking TIME MACHINE. That's right, through the miracle of modern technology, you can still here this week's DI as a podcast here. Why should you do that? Well, just look at this week's Vinyl Vespers feature. Right? Davisville, Dec. 12, 2016: The Palms’ New Owners Talk About Their Plans

Mon, 12/12/2016 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Andrew Fridae, Nora Cary.jpg

The Palms Playhouse has a big name in regional music. It started in a barn in south Davis 40 years ago, moved to Winters in 2002, and closed for most of 2016 after previous owner Dave Fleming retired. Now it’s reopening with new owners, Nora Cary and Andrew Fridae, both of Winters. On today’s show we talk about what inspired them to buy the Palms, their plans, their continuing emphasis on music, how they’ll use analytics to help identify acts who might do well at the venue, and performers they’d love to book. They also plan to display the green room wall from the barn era, which shows signatures from musicians who played at the club back in its Davis days.
