ABOUT US

KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

This week's edition of Divine Intervention strikes with a slate of new rock/pop from the likes of Algiers, Cage the Elephant, Red Baraat, and Teenage Bottlerocket, as well as some loveliness en Español from Lila Downs. There will be other genres. There will be an obligatory eclipse-related song. And there will be Vinyl Vespers as pictured—a recording made to be funny that may have decidedly missed the mark. When the album Häxan came out last November I was stoked. Not just because it was yet another Dungen album, but also because it was such a good one! It's their only all-instrumental album, which made it feel that much more special ~ finally it truly was all about the music itself! This album is Dungen's imagined score for the gorgeous 1926 Lotte Reiniger's animated film "The Adventures of Prince Achmed."

You can see from the thumbnail that this is going to be an especially challenging Vinyl Vespers service, and so pat yourself on the back in advance for tuning in to Divine Intervention. If there’s now a trend to share things, rather than own them, then the classic community library fits right in: It was created to own books in common for a community, and anyone with a library card could take the books home. But the Yolo County library now offers much more than books on shelves, including Chromebook tablets and hotspots you can borrow, job help, e-magazines, wi-fi, bilingual storytimes, and computer help. All at no charge. Scott Love manages the Stephens branch library in Davis, and today on Davisville he talks about how the library has evolved because of the internet, its egalitarian values, what it offers today, and where it’s headed.

This week's edition of Divine Intervention is breaking the rules for Vinyl Vespers. First of all, we pretty much all know this "artist" on sight. Second, the image is a lie -- we did not spring for the "digitally remastered" [good-goddess-why?] edition. Third, we *may* play more than one track if the mood strikes. So there.
