OUR PROGRAMS

In the Key of Folk

In the Key of Folk with Karen Leyse offers music that will keep you humming or dancing along — perhaps both! The focus is on traditional and current folk music, Americana, and bluegrass, with Celtic, Nordic, and Spanish infusions — wherever Karen's travels and interests take her. In addition, the music of contra dance, an American Folk tradition that came with English and other settlers, will often be threaded through the hour. Don’t know it? Check it out.

Live Wednesday 2-3pm
Replays Thursday 7-8am, Sunday 10-11am

Roots, Shoots and Leaves

Roots, Shoots and Leaves' DJ Tree has a theory of music that involves a tree. Suffice it to say that it involves a trinity — an exploration of themes and connections among recording artists — and otherwise very few boundaries. Listen for music old and new, known and unknown. And if you listen long enough, you may experience some musical enlightenment.

Live Tuesday 6-8pm
Replays Saturday 7-9pm

Tree Kilpatrick

jazz January 08 2019.jpg

Coming up tonight on Jazz After Dark:

A ‘new’ album from Erroll Garner is always something to celebrate! A 1964 live recording from the Royal Concert Hall in Amsterdam, “mixed and mastered from new transfers of the original 3-track analog tapes found in Garner’s personal archive,” was just released in 2018. We’ll hear three selections.

Our other featured performer is Sonny Stitt, prolific sax player from the early 1940’s to the early 1980’s. Plus works by Eva Cassidy, Johnny Hodges, Oscar Peterson with Lester Young, Ella Fitzgerald, Rob Agerbeek , and Monty Alexander.

Davisville, Dec. 31, 2018: Bob Dunning

Mon, 12/31/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Bob Dunning.jpg

Bob Dunning moved to Davis in the early 1950s, began writing for the Davis Enterprise in 1969, and started producing his daily column in 1976. At that pace, he has probably written more words about Davis than anyone. Ever. On today’s show we talk about the column, the idea that the Enterprise could use additional local voices like his from a greater variety of people in Davis, what he thinks Davis needs most, and his memories of sharing a stage with Bob Hope at the legendary comedian’s fundraiser for the Davis Senior Center in the 1980s.

Davisville, Dec. 17, 2018: Doug Hatton is one of the Santas of Davis

Mon, 12/17/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Doug Hatton at KDRT Dec 2018.jpg

Doug Hatton has appeared as Santa Claus at events in and around Davis for 22 years. On today’s Davisville he talks about the experience, what Davis kids ask for, the time a girl asked for an ATM for her room, how he manages expectations, and the enjoyment he gets from doing it all. Listening is important, he says, kids can sense if someone really wants to talk with them, and yes, his beard is real.
