Listening Lyrics with Ruby and the Emeralds

This week ( March 22 at 4:00PM) we will have the pleasure of having Tim and Ruby of Ruby and the Emeralds live in the studio.

Their sound is an integration of Ruby's Tex-Mex upbringing and musical heritage and Tim's deep folk, folk-rock and rock & roll influences.

Many of Tim's tunes were composed in Mexico and weave Spanish language elements into verses and choruses, expertly interpreted by Ruby's native tongue. Their songs have a decidedly "Americana" acoustic instrumentation while reaching out towards a "world music" orientation in their use of percussion, horns and cultural touches.

Listening Lyrics with Steve Kotarek

If you are into the live music scene in Davis/Sacramento then this is a must show. Steve Kotarek a local singer/songwriter will be my guest for the full hour.

I heard Steve a week ago and his orginal songs cast a spell.

Yes this is what community radio thrives at - featuring great local talent.

This Friday at 4:00 PM on KDRT FM 95.7 or streamed at KDRT.org

Listening Lyrics - Special guest ALEX ROTH of the WEST NILE RAMBLERS

A RARE treat this week. ALEX ROTH of the band WEST NILE RAMBLERS  will be my guest for the whole hour. This very talented individual will discuss his music, his band, the artists that have influenced him and of course - coffee.

The WEST NILE NILE RAMBLERS were brought together by a desire to play music as often as possible, This band brings years of experience and a depth of understanding to a smörgåsbord of music styles. Don't be surprised if you hear Jazz, Cajun, and Bluegrass tunes at a WNR show near you. Their fairly simple arrangements are made special by their very tight musicianship. Also, they have been known to bicycle to their gigs with all their gear. Gotta give them some credit for that.

The show will air Friday, March 1, 2013 at 4:00PM.

Listening Lyrics - a discussion with Marque Cass of "Tha Dirt Feelin"

This weeks Listening Lyrics will talk with Marque Cass of "Tha Dirt Feelin". A Davis based group that will be performing (Friday 2/15/13) at Beat Night at the John Natsoulas gallery.

To describe the band I will use Marque's own words ""Our music is, in my opinion, a very original and eclectic amalgamation of hip-hop, soul, and rock & roll. It is always upbeat, positive, and danceable. Our lyrical styles range from rapid-fire raps that may remind you of Bone Thugs ‘n Harmony or Three Six Mafia to soulful crooning that evokes Sam Cooke or Bill Withers."

I have heard Marque at the Dr. Andy poetry reading series and frankly Marque blew me away with his presentation and passion.

Soooo - to catch this very special event tune in on Friday at 4:00PM on 95.7FM or on line at www.kdrt.org
