Adrian West in the Studio, Recorded Jan 17th, 2020

Adrian West spends the hour with us in the KDRT studio. Listen now to his musical abilities.

His sound is original acoustic rock that sounds like Paul Simon meets Dave Matthews meets Talking Heads. His band also features vocal harmonies, guitar, electric violin, bass, drums, sometimes an alto sax, and a bit of live “looping.”

Born and raised in Montreal, Adrian is an exciting performer. A gifted vocalist, he moves effortlessly between guitar & violin, sometimes using live looping to add layers of sound and intrigue to his songs. With a knack for language that's simple yet poetic, he's not afraid to tackle difficult topics in his songwriting. "Safe Streets" tells an allegory about police violence, "Close Your Eyes" laments the beauty bias that pervades the mass media, and "Senses" entreats you to appreciate your senses while you can. But Adrian doesn't take any of this stuff too seriously; his lyrics are infused with a sense of hope and a touch of whimsy.

A Mellow Friday Morning with Alison B & Kate

This week Meraki Radio lays low like the fog. Alison B and Kate chat the hour away about their surroundings and retrospection therof. Kate discusses her current rental issue of having plants and the limitations that it puts on her expression. Alison B opens with a poem by Bob Kaufman and discusses a bit about the Research Methods course she is teaching this semester.

That's Margie Adam's Most Recent Music

Do you know the music of Margie Adam?  She is one of my favorite musicians!  Singer -- songwriter -- pianist -- activist -- feminist ...  the list keeps growing.   Did you know that she lived in Davis in the 1970s?  I had the pleasure of meeting her then, carrying her very first album in my store (Davis Wo/men's Book), and watching her career take off.  She moved from Davis to the Bay Area long ago and toured for many years before changing gears in 2015 to do integrative counseling.

Today' program featured pieces from her final two albums -- "Avalon" and "Portal" -- interspersed with remembrances.  This is 'part 3' of this series.
