Justin Cox interviews Pieter via the After the Deluge podcast, on Listening Lyrics, Aug. 23, 2024

After the Deluge is a music podcast about songwriting, albums, and whatnot hosted by Justin Cox, a KDRT friend. I replay most of this podcast in this week's Listening Lyrics. Seasons about Bright Eyes, Jackson Browne, and Against Me! are in this feed, plus other interviews.

We talk about my failed attempt to interview poets in the “late 1900s,” open mic nights, recording live and not overthinking it, interviewing locals > interviewing pros, KDRT, Rita Hosking, don’t be lame just make stuff, biking across Holland, Jackson Browne (ding ding), The Lovin’ Spoonful, Bright Eyes’ “We are Nowhere and it’s Now,” Paul Simon’s “Graceland,” Pieter reads a poem, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan’s “Tempest,” Herb Alpert, The Avett Brothers, and: what was the best five-year stretch of your life?

Roll Call! The Audio Ecotone for Aug 23rd, 2024

Joy! Laughter! Tears! Obamas! Football players! Oprah! This week's Democratic National Convention in Chicago had it all. And underlying the historic roll call vote of each state's delegation nominating the first woman of color as a major party presidential candidate, DJ Cassidy spun a special set of tunes celebrating each state in turn. In this week's Audio Ecotone, we play selections from that set list along with a couple of special additions to the vibe. Freedom!

The Yolo County Breakdown for 10:00am on Aug 23rd, 2024

A sad week for bluegrass fans who mourn the loss of Bobby Hicks - one of the greatest fiddlers in bluegrass history. This week's show is a tribute to Bobby featuring his work with Bill Monroe, the Bluegrass Album Band, Ricky Skaggs and a whole lot more. Rest in peace Mr. Hicks. Thanks for the music!
