OUR PROGRAMS

Praise Time with Preacher

Praise Time with Preacher

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Live Tuesday 4-5pm
Replays Sunday 7-8am

The Folk Brothers, May 31, 2023: Remembering Brother Peter

Wed, 05/31/2023 - 11:10am | kdrtradio

Peter with dog.jpg

Today’s show honors Peter Schiffman, late co-host with Bill Wagman of The Folk Brothers. Peter died unexpectedly on Friday, May 26. Bill is away, and Rodriguez, host of KDRT program Silver Nine Volt Heart, fills in with music and warm remembrances of our friend and fellow Davis programmer.

“Peter, we’re going to miss you a lot here,” Rod says toward the end of the hour. “Thank you for your contributions to radio, particularly KDRT and also KDVS, and your love of music, and your love of live music in Davis.”

You can say many good things about Peter, including the happiness he got from his love of dogs. This love helps the show “end with a smile,” Rod says — by playing a song Peter Rowan performs about dogs, “Drop the Bone.”

Here's this week's setlist:

Hanna Nakano (pictured in KDRT’s studio) is the latest owner of The Dirt, which aims to be the main place for listings and information about concerts, events, shows and other gatherings in and around Davis. The print-and-online publication began in fall 2010. She took charge a few months ago, has made a few changes, and plans to make more. Today she talks about what drives her, how she landed here after working in television back east, an algorithm-free new feature that recommends shows and attractions, and what she’s doing to make The Dirt work.

Updated May 31

This hurts.

Peter Schiffman, one-half of KDRT's The Folk Brothers, a man loved and respected in countless hearts, homes, communities and towns, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 26.

We send our love and condolences to his family and friends, and to all the dogs he loved so very much.

While Folk Brother Bill is away traveling, KDRT DJ Rodriguez honored Peter's love for music and KDRT during this week's Folk Brothers broadcast.

Peter's daughter posted this announcement to his Facebook page:
