The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Born and raised in London, England, Nick began buying records as a small child in the late 1950s, then moved on to going to gigs and playing in bands as a teenager in the late ’60s. IMPLOSION is simply an hour of Nick playing the music he loves – psychedelia, rock, folk, beat, jazz, soul, punk, and more – with a bit of chat thrown in for good measure.

Album of the Week - 8/13/15 at 5:00PM -Santana "Abraxas"

Wed, 08/12/2015 - 4:28pm | Pieter Pastoor

stcd04.jpg

Join Jesse and Pieter as we listen to an early vinyl pressing of the classic Santana album, Abraxas. Released in 1970, this album is a sprawling blend of sounds, incorporating influences from latin jazz, electric blues and rock. Featuring Carlos Santana’s incredible electric guitar work and an extensive percussion section, our opinion is that this album is best experienced on vinyl. While there are many newer pressings to pick from that get great reviews, the one that we’re going to play is from the early 1970’s. And the album jacket is a classic! Painted by artist Mati Klarwein in 1961, the artwork drew inspiration from Hermann Hesse’s novel, Demian. The novel is quoted on the back cover of the jacket:  "We stood before it and began to freeze inside from the exertion. We questioned the painting, berated it, made love to it, prayed to it: We called it mother, called it whore and slut, called it our beloved, called it Abraxas….”. The artwork incorporates symbology from several religions.

Davisville, 8/10/15: Richie Furay of Buffalo Springfield & Poco, part 1

Mon, 08/10/2015 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Richie Furay

Richie Furay and his band play in Sacramento on Aug. 21, which sets the stage for this two-part interview with this legendary musician about his music, life and bands. Part 1 covers the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group Buffalo Springfield, its short reunion in 2011, his vague memory of playing in Davis more than 40 years ago, his job as a pastor in Colorado, his current band, and the song Crazy Eyes which—for me, at least—crowned his time with Poco. In Part 2, which will debut Aug. 24, he discusses his latest CD Hand in Hand, Keb’ Mo’s guest spot on the record, Furay’s signature song Kind Woman, and how he and Gram Parsons of the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers talked about creating a band in 1969 but realized they essentially had too many musicians they wanted to work with to form just one group.

Album of the Week - 7/30/15 at 5:00PM - Alabama Shakes "Sound & Color"

Thu, 07/30/2015 - 11:20am | Pieter Pastoor

0883870075060_600.jpg

Album of the week - KDRT 95,7FM

"Sound & Color is not an electronic record. But it is strange and mystical and unexpected—more Houses of the Holy than "Holy Cow". It’s got past lives and future people, traces of Curtis Mayfield, Erykah Badu, MC5, the Strokes. There’s a song called "Shoegaze" that could find a second home on the Rolling Stones’ Tattoo You. Bon Iver collaborator Rob Moose provides eerie string arrangements that slowly encroach on songs like ivy climbing up a fence while the band and co-producer Blake Mills tweak tones and rhythms to make guitars and drums and bass and keyboards sound genuinely exciting—fresh, even—in 2015. This is stadium soul with one eye peeking toward another galaxy while hands and feet and throats desperately try to suss out life here on Earth." review by PITCHFORK - see complete review here http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/20420-sound-color/.

Jordan Crivelli-Decker visits KDRT

Jordan Crivelli-Decker - Every now and then I spot a talent that somehow stands out from the crowd. Within a couple of minutes of playing I knew that Jordan would be a real treat on Listening Lyrics. This week we have Jordan and his guitar for a whole hour. Jordan is heavily influenced by fingerstyle guitar music and his father’s playing, He blend multiple styles of guitar into one holistic genre. You can find Jordan playing at open mic nights around the northern California area a few nights a month.
