KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

Each week, Planetary Radio visits with a scientist, engineer, project manager, astronaut, advocate or writer who provides a unique and exciting perspective on the exploration of our solar system and beyond.

Album of the Week (4/18): TOXICITY by System of a Down

Released in 2001, this album is pure teenage nostalgia for me and for many of my fellow millennials who had an inclination for the heavier & louder music. Every single track is gorgeous and iconic thanks to Serj Tankian's incredible vocals, Daron Malakian's manic guitar riffs, Shavo Odadjian's sinister vibes, and John Dolmayan's perpetual beast-mode drum playing.

It was hard to pick ONE album but it got a whole lot easier once I realized that NONE are really radio-friendly except for Toxicity (or else I'll be spending the entire time on-edge trying to censor it per FCC regulations).

Tune in to Album of the Week this Wednesday, April 18th from 5-6PM to hear this album in its glorious entirety.

If you live in Davis, you likely have a pretty clear picture of what downtown is, perhaps including what you like about it, and maybe what you don't. Perhaps you have ideas of what you want it to become. The future of downtown Davis is the essential question before the Downtown Davis Plan Advisory Committee, and on today’s Davisville we talk with committee chair Meg Arnold and vice chair Michelle Byars about the work the committee has done in their first six months, and where they're headed next. Meanwhile, if you have ideas for how downtown should look and function in 2040, the city is presenting a public participatory design workshop next week.

Siler Schneider visits KDRT

Siler Schneider is making quite a name for himself as one of the premier players of the UC Davis mens basketball team. He will join us in the studio to talk a little basketball but really we are going to explore the music of basketball. Siler hails from Lansing, Kansas. Attending UC Davis as a Junior Communication major. Siler says one of his favorite pastimes outside of basketball is playing ‘Clue’ the board game, the question is what music is he listening to while practicing Bball, motivation for the game or playing a board game.

Davis singer-songwriter Rita Hosking will join Folk Brothers Bill and Peter at 10:30 AM to talk about and play a few songs, from her latest album entitled "For Real". Rita will be touring with the album starting this Spring, with a CD release show at The Palms Playhouse on Saturday April 21st.

Davisville, April 2, 2018: A plan to run self-driving shuttles from Amtrak station to UC Davis

The Yolo County Transportation District is proposing a new shuttle service that would operate self-driving, electric vehicles (something like the model in this photo) between the UC Davis campus and the Davis Amtrak station downtown. The shuttles would run frequently during peak commute hours, and use Third Street and Old Davis Road for parts of the route. On today's show Terry Bassett, executive director of the district, discusses everything from the details to the larger picture.
