KDRT LIVE broadcast from Armadillo Music on Friday June 8, 2018 at 6:30PM with The Mindful

Fri, 06/08/2018 - 6:12pm | Pieter Pastoor

The Mindful

KDRT and Armadillo Music are thrilled to have The Mindful celebrate ArtAbout in Davis, CA. The Mindful represents sophisticated music with a band of well trained  musicians. The Mindful is not afraid to tread in unknown territories by artistically blending many genres. If experimentalism is defined as "the philosophical belief that the way to truth is through experiments and empiricism", then the Mindful aim to be a musical expression of this belief. Founded by Brett Vaughn, the Mindful plays with sounds, styles and musical approaches at will, making use of primarily rock and jazz influences while also offering funk and Americana vibes. Not merely instrumental-based music, the Mindful's colorful lyrics narrate a vast and varied display of songwriting prowess and discoveries. This is one show you should not miss especially if you appreciate true craftmanship.  For those outside the listening area this broadscast will be streamed live on KDRT.

Davisville, May 28, 2018: When you’re looking for regional solutions, talk to Martin Tuttle

Mon, 05/28/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Martin Tuttle 051418.jpg

We’re short on housing, the roads are crowded, the amount of homelessness is a disgrace. How do we solve problems like these—actually solve them, not just talk about them? Starting in the 1980s, Martin Tuttle has held jobs that have allowed him to observe, address, and help fix problems in the Solano-to-Placer region, from his days as a chief aide to then-Assemblyman Tom Hannigan, to Tuttle’s current job as city manager for West Sacramento. He leaves that job in June. Today we talk about the regional identity, how the area has changed since the 1980s, what we can learn from the ways we've solved problems before ... and get his take on two of our most intractable public works problems today: transportation and the lack of housing.

Elias Lucero a gifted guitarist on Listening Lyrics recorder May 18th, 2018

Fri, 05/18/2018 - 5:05pm | Pieter Pastoor

IMG_0992.jpg

Elias Lucero is one gifted dude. Listening Lyrics was thrilled to have him on the show. Not only is he talented but a very articulate and all around great guy. Elias is a music student at Sacramento State. He plays in several bands including Papa Joe and The New deal. Elias is also very busy between schools and the many gigs he squeezes in. Genre you ask? Well better ask Elias himself he answers that during the show. Elias was my first guest that feeds his guitar directly into the studio board, which is new board as of a few weeks ago. So the hour does have some techinical hic ups.

Davisville, May 14, 2018: What's it like to be mayor of Davis? Or the mayor’s spouse?

Mon, 05/14/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Davis City Hall May 2018.jpg

If we want a city council that represents the people who live here, then we need people who’ll give their time, effort and skills to serve on it. Candidates with political ambitions or appetites might get a career out of the work, but the citizen council member -- what's the reward for them? What's the cost? And because in a marriage the important experiences of one partner are also felt, in some fashion, by the other partner, then what’s the experience for the spouse? Today's guests are Robb and Nancy Davis. Four years ago, Robb ran his only campaign for the council, came in first, stepped up to mayor two years ago, and now completes his term this summer. On today’s show Robb and Nancy discuss how the experience affected them, and their comments include a candid explanation of why he didn’t want a second term.
