KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

The Electric Compost Heap with Dug Deep fertlilizes the airwaves every 2nd & 4th Friday, digging through the delightful detritus of blues, soul, country, rock, reggae, jazz, funk, punk, psych, and more to concoct a rich, nutrient-dense musical humus. On today’s program they talk about their first priorities, what the city needs from UC Davis (and perhaps what UC Davis wants from the city), the difficulty of engaging a largely disinterested public … and, because this is still a town where people contact council members over concerns as micro-local as barbecue smoke, the best ways to reach them, and how soon you'll hear back if you do.

About 16 million Americans served in World War II. Today, 73 years after that war ended, perhaps 3 percent of those veterans are alive. Among the survivors, an even smaller number lived through infantry combat during the war—and today’s guest is one of them. Francis Resta, who lives in Davis and was born in 1925, was a mortar-man and machine gunner in the 102nd Infantry Division, and fought in Europe. Today we talk about his experiences, living through “insane” and “endless” combat, post-traumatic stress disorder, why many combat vets shun the idea they’re heroes, and why he wants to talk about it all now.

*This episode was awarded First Place in "Radio/Audio – Non-Commercial: Public Affairs Program" at the San Francisco Press Club 2019 Awards Dinner.

Easan Katir visits Listening Lyrics and we can't wait. His guitar playing is superb and boy, can he tell a story through song. Easan is a Davis, CA resident and happens to be a neighbor of mine. Why you might ask did I wait so long? No longer will his talents be hidden from us. Professionally Easan Katir owns an investment management firm and serves as a director for a Washington DC-based NGO. Musically, he once upon a time played professionally in Las Vegas at the Aladdin. He composed songs which won awards at the Hollywood song-writing competition.
