For the last couple of years every Friday at Davis Media Access (and right next to the KDRT studio), teens have been participating in an animation class, in a self-organised group known as the Davis Teen Animators’ Club. Their mentor is DMA's own Alex Silva-Sadder. Well, as you might have guessed, we got to know them a bit, and a few months ago I asked them to join me this Friday. So listen now to club president Zahra Baxi and Alex as they share about animation and play some of their favorite music.

The program "Live DiRT" is dedicated to bringing you live performances at various pop-up times to fit the schedule of the artists appearing.

Hailing from Northern California, Misner & Smith’s music is a combination of soaring vocal harmonies, extremely tight instrumental arrangements, and story-filled, poetic songwriting, adding up to some of the most electrifying music on the scene today. The band’s sound harkens back to the bedrock of american rock & folk, but the diversity of styles and genres are one of the things that set M&S apart. Davisville, March 11, 2019: Snowbound on a train, with a ukulele

Today’s show is a story about a train with 183 riders that never reached its destination. The reason why it didn’t is also why this train became a national story – and it’s a story for Davisville because the train normally stops in Davis. My guest was one of the people aboard, my daughter, Megan Buchanan (I was onboard too). She’s also the young woman whose kid-entertaining ukulele playing in the lounge car was recorded by another passenger and went a little viral. No injuries were reported from this trip, the power, water and food held out, and a lot of people were helpful – but that’s not to say this was an anxiety-free sojourn in the woods. The story starts on a Sunday evening with snowflakes falling at the train station in Eugene, Ore., as the Seattle-to-L.A. Coast Starlight began what was supposed to be a 13-hour overnight trip to Davis. Instead, the train spent more than 36 hours stuck in a small mountain town.

Songwriter Brenden Tull - Music is back! This time being featured for the KDRT 95.7FM live radio broadcast as part of the 2nd Friday ArtAbout in downtown Davis on Friday at Armadillo Music, March 8 @ 6:30PM. If you're not able to stop in, join us on the radio at www.kdrt.org.

Brenden Tull is a new face to the local music scene. Two years ago he was a nomadic busker, playing guitar on street corners across the west coast. He then spent a year working as a farmhand in Hawaii, growing taro, kava, and bananas. Recently, Tull has returned to his hometown of Davis, California and begun his music career. His songs have been described as "tangled in emotion... what I imagine clouds sing to each other before it starts raining" (Moli O. "The Glass Pianist") and his songwriting deals mostly in the contrasting imagery of beauty and meaning. Tull is currently a bartender at the Root of Happiness and full-time student at Sacramento City College, but hopes to expand his music to a level where he can focus on it full time.

Join The Folk Brothers - Bill and Peter - when they welcome Bay Area-based string band The Crooked Jades to the KDRT studios. Founded in 1996, The Jades have been on a two decade mission to revitalize old-time string band music for our modern era. The Crooked Jades are currently touring their latest album - "Empathy Moves The Water", their 7th album, but first in a decade - which features a mix of traditional as well as original ballads and tunes. They will also be appearing at The Palms in Winters that same evening (March 1).
