KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

The Wild Fox Party

Tune in for a wide variety of roots music — including doo-wop, gospel, jazz, blues, rock 'n' roll, Latin, African, and hillbilly/country bluegrass — from the early 1920s to contemporary times. The Wild Fox Party focuses on vocal groups , small-group ensembles, and outstanding vocalists and instrumentalists who never or hardly ever get heard. The music provides a forum for learning about history and diverse cultures, and it does so through the exposure of music as art, highlighting points in time that will last forever via the medium of audio recordings.

In the Key of Folk

In the Key of Folk with Karen Leyse offers music that will keep you humming or dancing along — perhaps both! The focus is on traditional and current folk music, Americana, and bluegrass, with Celtic, Nordic, and Spanish infusions — wherever Karen's travels and interests take her. This week, Live Tracks focuses almost entirely on Yolo County bands, from shows recorded during the monthly Thursday Live! concert series at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall. In November 2009, Jim recorded his first Thursday Live! concert, with the Rita Hosking Trio, and the rest is history -- at an average of 9 shows per year, the total exceeds 90 two-hour concerts recorded, mixed, and broadcast on KDRT Thursday evenings during Live Tracks. This week's episode covers a lot of ground, and samples popular local bands such as The Cups, Rita Hosking Trio, The Muddy Waders, the legendary Clarence Van Hook with Cedar Seeger, The West Nile Ramblers, Bonanza King, The Davis "Odd Stars" from the 2018 British Invasion Concert, the Golden Cadillacs, and a special recording of Mumbo Gumbo from the November 2018 Fire Relief Benefit.

Ryan McKasson (fiddle) Eric McDonald (guitar and vocals) and Jeremiah McLane (accordion) are masters of the Celtic music tradition. Touring nationally, they will appear at the Palms Playhouse in Winters on Friday the 15th. Prior to their Palms show, they drop by the Folk Brothers between 10 and 11 AM on Wednesday the 13th to play some live music as well as chat with Bill and Peter.

The Hip Hop group StnrKrew showed up a little late, but arrived at the 14:30 minute mark. It was a great hour and includes an original rap song performed live.

StnrKrew Music is four artists who love hip hop and a variety of old rock 'n' roll type music, growing up in Las Vegas and different parts of California. DocSinister, JetLagg, MoonChild, and DaVinciiHendriXX have come together accompanied by good friend Dj Morfintime to recreate and reignite the fire in lyrical, punchline, battle rap-style BARs, putting rhythm and raw words together as one to exceed the level set by previous rap legends. With idols such as MacMiller, Tupac, Biggie, Eminem, and so sooooo much more, the bar is set very high!
