KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

To Now features local, regional, and small touring bands throughout California while highlighting the history and culture of California musicians, venues, teachers, recording studios, promoters, festivals, and general resources that enrich our community.

Roots, Shoots and Leaves' DJ Tree has a theory of music that involves a tree. April is designated Tomato Month on the Davis Garden Show - this episode is one of four that will feature a wide variety and depth of information about one of the Central Valley's favorite crops. For the past 15 years, the Davis Garden Show airs Thursdays noon - 1 PM, and Saturday morning 9 - 10 AM.

My guest today is Heather Caswell, who’s celebrating 34 years operating The Wardrobe in Downtown Davis. We’ll talk about business during a pandemic, what she’s learned in more than three decades of operating a small business in Davis, and what her work is centering on now, including the Davis Community Vision Alliance.

Each week DJ Chris creates a "poem-sentence" that contains pieces of all the song titles played in the half-hour indie rock music mini-tour. This week's is "January spirit took a swing at the western blue day drop." This week's image is from the band "Hello Echo," whose song featured today is "A Drop Is An Ocean." The band was LA-based, genre alt-folk-rock, and this album "Echo" is their second, released in 2014. Illustration by band member Andy Sarno. This past year, Anne Ternus-Bellamy and I have sent each other occasional notes of encouragement as we've both covered the pandemic and its impact here in Yolo County. I talk to people about their experiences, while Anne has been deeply immersed reporting on the phenomenal rate of daily information generated by public health agencies and local government.

Anne grew up in San Anselmo, CA, where she first started writing for newspapers. She graduated with a degree in journalism from Northwestern University, and afterwards headed to Sacramento to work for a legal newspaper covering the state Capitol and courts. She took a long break from working full time — about 10 years — to stay home with her kids, though she still freelanced for the Enterprise and other publications and spent many years volunteering with Davis schools.
