Davis Music Connections, April 13, 2021: Continuing local tributes for Women's History Month and remembering Cathy Speck

Tue, 04/13/2021 - 3:00pm | Ned

ad-04-13-2021.jpg

In this episode Ned and Clyde "celebrate" their 55th pandemic show produced from home in their typical upbeat, humorous, and slightly irreverent style. Additionally, they continue their highlighting of women musicians for Women's History Month (extended) and honor the passing of Davis' good cheer ambassador Cathy Speck.  In his Davis Enterprise column of Sunday,  April 11, 2021 Bob Dunning wrote a beautiful tribute to Cathy Speck, which said, in part, "Put simply, Cathy Speck is one of the greatest human beings God ever put on this Earth.  She taught us love and compassion and true friendship".  Ned and Clyde provide a tribute to end their show,  and add that Cathy taught them strength and courage, as she spent her life promoting understanding, love, and acceptance, while working tirelessly for those who were discriminated against for being different.

COVID-19 Community Report, April 13, 2021: Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor

Tue, 04/13/2021 - 12:40pm | Autumn Labbe-Renault

COVID-19 - Don-Saylor-041321.jpg

As I am winding down this series (last show airs April 27), I wanted to circle back with someone at the county level, and I chose Don Saylor, whom I last interviewed in June 2020.

Supervisor Saylor represents District 2, including the cities of Davis and Winters, the campus of the University of California at Davis, and the farm land of southwestern Yolo County. His public service career spans over 45 years and includes 25 years elected in office, administrative, planning and analytical positions in local government and both the legislative and executive branches of California state government.

Davisville, April 12, 2021: Andy Jones talks about teaching one of UC Davis’ few in-person classes this spring

Mon, 04/12/2021 - 5:30pm | Bill Buchanan

UC Davis 040721.JPG

A small fraction of UC Davis classes—about 100—are meeting in person this spring. What’s the return to in-person learning like, a year after the Covid-19 pandemic forced the switch to remote education? Today we talk with instructor Dr. Andy Jones, whose outdoor writing course is one of the 100, about how he’s conducting the class, what students are telling him, some changes that might outlast the pandemic, and other insights from the past year.

Jones has taught at UC Davis since 1990. He’s also a leader in academic tech on campus, plus you might know him as the quizmaster at de Vere’s Irish Pub in Davis (temporarily closed because of the pandemic) and as a former Davis poet laureate.

A Constant Grin for April 2, 2021: Indie rock with an echo

Fri, 04/02/2021 - 2:30pm | Chris Mussen

KDRT-A-Constant-Grin-Hello-Echo-040221 (3).png

Each week DJ Chris creates a "poem-sentence" that contains pieces of all the song titles played in the half-hour indie rock music mini-tour. This week's is "January spirit took a swing at the western blue day drop." This week's image is from the band "Hello Echo," whose song featured today is "A Drop Is An Ocean." The band was LA-based, genre alt-folk-rock, and this album "Echo" is their second, released in 2014. Illustration by band member Andy Sarno. "A Constant Grin" airs live Friday afternoon 2-2:30 PM and Chris has produced over 500 episodes. Check out today's 7-song playlist below.
