The Audio Ecotone

The Audio Ecotone logo

Join Eddy Owt as he explores the rich genre diversity, cross-breeding, and hybridizing in the back waters and tributaries of the past 100 years of music: rock, jazz, pop, r&b, soul, country, ska, electronica, J-Pop/C-Pop/K-Pop, afrobeat, and much more.

"We have a tropical situation where there are thousands of 'species' of music around and they're all constantly cross-breeding and hybridizing. It's very exciting, but you can't keep up with it easily." -- Brian Eno

Roots, Shoots and Leaves

Roots, Shoots and Leaves' DJ Tree has a theory of music that involves a tree. Suffice it to say that it involves a trinity — an exploration of themes and connections among recording artists — and otherwise very few boundaries. Listen for music old and new, known and unknown. And if you listen long enough, you may experience some musical enlightenment.

Live Tuesday 6-8pm
Replays Thursday 4-6pm

COVID-19 Community Report, March 23rd, 2021: Yolo County Children's Alliance director of programs Jeneba Lahai

Tue, 03/23/2021 - 12:40pm | Autumn Labbe-Renault

COVID-19-YCCA-Jeneba-16x9.jpg

I became aware of Jeneba Lahai and her work with Yolo County Children's Alliance (YCCA) a few weeks ago when she spoke on a panel hosted by Yolo Community Foundation. She is the director of programs for YCCA, which helps families, particularly non-English speaking families, access services, learn valuable parenting skills, and find support. As an immigrant herself (she is originally from Sierra Leone, West Africa), Jeneba has particular insight into immigrant families' needs during the pandemic.

That's Life for Freddie Oakley in 2019

Thu, 03/18/2021 - 11:00am | Lois Richter

Freddie Oakley portrait

Do you remember when Freddie Oakley was our Elections official for Yolo County?  She has done so much more than that!  I've know Freddie for many years, interviewed her here several times, had her as a guest on my television series back in the 1990s, and she even hosted that show once ("Thoughtfulness" on DCTV).  Today on That's Life, we reminisce about the old days (good old days? bad old days?) and hear what Freddie has been doing since she retired.

Retired?  HAH!  Busier than ever is more like it!  Hope you enjoy the chat.

COVID-19 Community Report, March 16, 2021: Addressing anti-Asian racism and later, local Women's History Month

Tue, 03/16/2021 - 12:40pm | Autumn Labbe-Renault

COVID-19-Report-031621 (1).jpg

My guests today are Lisa Yep Salinas and Dotty Pritchard. Lisa and I will talk about the rise of anti-Asian and Pacific Islander racism and xenophobia during the pandemic. A resolution that condemns anti-Asian violence was approved unanimously by the Yolo County Board of Supervisors in February, and it is on the consent calendar for the Davis City Council meeting tonight. Dotty Pritchard and I will chat about the longtime Yolo County Women’s History Month luncheon, usually held this time of year. I'll also provide the weekly updates from Yolo County Public Health.
