OUR PROGRAMS

Praise Time with Preacher

Praise Time with Preacher

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Live Tuesday 4-5pm
Replays Thursday 11pm-Friday 12am, Sunday 7-8am

Classical Excursions

Greg LaTraille

Classical radio programs often focus on well-known light classics and ignore challenging and imaginative masterworks, especially from the rich repertoire of 20th century music, which is very diverse. This results in listeners who are unaware of many wonderful works. Excursions will present short and longer works by famous as well as less known composers, with insightful commentary by a composer with years of experience in radio, classical marketing, and music education.

Live Friday 11am-1pm

Banjo Bones, The Dark Side of Americana, Jul 7th, 2017

Fri, 07/07/2017 - 5:05pm | Pieter Pastoor

banjo bones.JPG

Listen now - - Banjo Bones sings themes of the present in a voice of the past.  With lyrical content that spans the introspective to the esoteric, Banjo Bones combines elements of roots music into a genre defying style that borrows in equal portions from blues, jazz, country and folk.  Whiskey infused philosopher, frustrated poet, and wannabe cowboy, Banjo Bones takes listeners on a journey filled with the musical landscape equivalent to Death Valley, as told by a pallet of characters that would be perfectly at home in a Fante or Bukowski book.

A founding member of post-punk band Samsara, based in Washington DC in the early part of the 1990s, JL Espada recorded and released a regionally successful EP (recorded in the legendary Inner Ear Studios, home of underground legends Fugazi), only to turn away from the music industry in 1996.  He eventually found his voice again through the alias Banjo Bones, and after relocating to Sacramento, CA in 2011, released several works, including the EP Failed Ambitions (2012), and the popular single Snowy Mountain (2013).  The full-length CD of new material, The Place of Dead Roads, was released March 5, 2015.  2017's Cowboy Dreams is the most recent release, a ten song collection of songs that can best be described as the soundtrack to a desert adventure.

In a music environment cluttered with overproduced, empty-minded flavor of the month music, Banjo Bones makes an honest attempt to keep the musical story-telling tradition alive. Visit Banjo Jones at www.banjobones.com. Note only songs played from the CD Cowboy Dreams are listed on the playlist

Divine Intervention Strikes - July 3

George Maharis cover art

This evening on Divine Intervention, we'll listen to some sweet sounds from the bands performing at tomorrow's Fourth of July celebration (thanks to the Davis Live Music Collective). "Which bands?" you ask. None other thanCon Brio, Achilles Wheel, and Element Brass Band. "Will this be fun?" you ask. Actually, no, you don't—because you know from the line-up that the answer is a definite "Yes!" Instead, you ask if George Maharis is in one of these bands. We decline to answer that silly question, but we do hope you'll tune in for the July 4th preview, new music, and, of course, Vinyl Vespers, only on Divine Intervention, 7-9p PT, on KDRT-FM.

Dusk cover art
The East Bay Express expresses it best: "Garrett pens songs that are literary in style with well-worked lyrics and a voice that soars over dark, ethereal melodies...ranging from raving pop to solemn folk, from Shins-like exuberance to Mark Kozalek's charismatic sadness." Dusk is no exception. Tune in Thursday, June 22, 5-6p, for Album of the Week on KDRT. Jess Goddesse hosts.

Davisville, June 19, 2017: Dan Walters exits the Bee, keeps writing about California

Mon, 06/19/2017 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Walters' last Bee column.jpg

If you follow California politics, then you’ve probably encountered the work of Dan Walters. For 33 years he wrote a column for the Sacramento Bee, writing about this state’s extensive cultural, demographic, economic and political changes since the 1960s and 1970s. He left the Bee this month, signed on as a columnist with the nonprofit journalism venture CALmatters, and joins us today to talk about our complex state, where change is constant and common ground can be very hard to find.

Divine Intervention Strikes - June 19

Mon, 06/19/2017 - 4:59pm | Jess Goddésse

Davis-Music-Festival-2017.jpg

DMF7 logo

This week, Divine Intervention strikes to save us from that anticlimatic DMF hangover. Yes, the 7th annual Davis Music Fest (and KDRT's 2nd annual DMF live broadcast) was good fun for all—so much fun that it's hard to say goodbye. On top of that, unless you are as intrepid as our own photographista Eunah, you likely didn't catch every band on every stage. To remedy this situation on this hotter-than-hades evening, we'll skip Vinyl Vespers tonight (and even skimp a little on the new tunes) simply to revisit assorted savory sounds from several DMF7 artists. Do tune in, 7-9p Pacific, only on KDRT! For visual accompaniment, peruse Eunah's hot photos here!

Dead Wax its Final Vinyl show 6/15/17 - so sad

Dead Wax on KDRT

As George Harrison sang "All Things Must Pass" - Tonight is the final episode of DEAD WAX which was created and hosted by Jesse Deere. I had a hand in getting Jesse on the air but tonight, as he celebrates his 100th and final show, he taught me that music is more than just the joy of hearing it but discovering what makes it so. Dead Wax will leave a big hole in KDRT's line up. Jesse played several genres but the main focus was Americana and vinyl. He alsways had a theme to his show and I loved hearing his comments on why he selected the songs he played. So to sum up his 100 shows on KDRT, we have loved having him in the studio and have been blessed to be able to broadcast his passion of vinyl.

All the best Jesse

Love Pieter and the KDRT gang
