OUR PROGRAMS

Roots, Shoots and Leaves

Roots, Shoots and Leaves' DJ Tree has a theory of music that involves a tree. Suffice it to say that it involves a trinity — an exploration of themes and connections among recording artists — and otherwise very few boundaries. Listen for music old and new, known and unknown. And if you listen long enough, you may experience some musical enlightenment.

Live Tuesday 6-8pm
Replays Saturday 7-9pm
DJ(s):
Tree Kilpatrick

Twang Thang

Twang-Thang-farmstead-image-Yolo

Twang Thang features outlaw country old and new, showcasing the folks who sowed the harder-edged musical seeds for what we today call Americana, as well as the newer artists who continue the tunes and outlaw ethos forward. George Jones, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Lucinda Willimans, Steve Earle, Dwight Yoakum, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Billie Jo Shaver ... Americana music didn't just show up one day — it has deep and varied country music roots. Twang Thang explores the originators, the newcomers, and the music that happened along the way!

Live Wednesday 7-9am
Replays Wednesday 9-11pm, Sunday 8-10am

Classical Excursions

Greg LaTraille

Classical radio programs often focus on well-known light classics and ignore challenging and imaginative masterworks, especially from the rich repertoire of 20th century music, which is very diverse. This results in listeners who are unaware of many wonderful works. Excursions will present short and longer works by famous as well as less known composers, with insightful commentary by a composer with years of experience in radio, classical marketing, and music education.

Live Friday 11am-1pm
DJ(s):

Mon, 04/02/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Davis and EV.jpg

The Yolo County Transportation District is proposing a new shuttle service that would operate self-driving, electric vehicles (something like the model in this photo) between the UC Davis campus and the Davis Amtrak station downtown. The shuttles would run frequently during peak commute hours, and use Third Street and Old Davis Road for parts of the route. On today's show Terry Bassett, executive director of the district, discusses everything from the details to the larger picture.

Davisville, March 19, 2018: Stories from all over wonderful, weird California

Mon, 03/19/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Sam McManis and his book.png

For five years, and while living in Davis, Sam McManis wrote a column about traveling through California for the Sacramento Bee. He went beyond the usual subjects to write about places like Nitt Witt Ridge ( a counterpoint to Hearst Castle), Rancho Obi-Wan, and the Museum of History in Granite, and has collected and updated the best stories in his new book, “Crossing California: A Cultural Topography of a Land of Wonder & Weirdness.” He’s back in the area from his current home in Yakima, Wash., for a book tour, and talks about his stories—and what he’d recommend to travelers who visit Davis—today on Davisville.

Check out "Low Strung" on Listening Lyrics last week!

Fri, 03/16/2018 - 5:05pm | Pieter Pastoor

Low Strung Cello Fest

Doug Kelly stood in for Pieter today to host Low Strung.    Somehow all of these wonderful Yale students fit in our TV studio for a video recording and a live radio broadcast.

Listen above to hear the chaos- special thanks to Live Tracks host Jim Buchanan, Bryce Parker for the video, and our own Preacher for helping with camera.    It takes a village sometimes!

Special thanks to KDRT operations memeber Diane Crumley for the photo and ushering the group through our space.   And, yes, those are all Cello cases in our video editing area....
