Twang Thang features outlaw country old and new, showcasing the folks who sowed the harder-edged musical seeds for what we today call Americana, as well as the newer artists who continue the tunes and outlaw ethos forward. George Jones, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Lucinda Willimans, Steve Earle, Dwight Yoakum, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Billie Jo Shaver ... Americana music didn't just show up one day — it has deep and varied country music roots. Twang Thang explores the originators, the newcomers, and the music that happened along the way!

Praise Time with Preacher

Praise Time with Preacher

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Live Tuesday 4-5pm
Replays Thursday 11pm-Friday 12am, Sunday 7-8am

They are an Americana duo that is steeped in traditional folk, bluegrass, country and blues, with a passion for artfully crafted songs and vocal harmonies.=

Painted Wind was formed out of a trio formerly known as Hickory Hollar. Nancy and Mel found common ground across a panorama featuring many distinct artists and genres and came together with the shared passion of crafting new music, and deftly interpreting classic covers.

Davisville, May 20, 2019: Amtrak and the future of traveling by train

Mon, 05/20/2019 - 6:10pm | Bill Buchanan

Davis train station 040619.jpg

More than 383,000 people boarded or exited a train in Davis in fiscal 2018, mostly while using the Sacramento-Bay Area Capitol Corridor service. The Capitols are one example of how regional train travel can work, and other ideas are in play – from the high-speed line that’s getting at least partially built in the Central Valley, to Virgin Rail’s venture in Florida.

Meanwhile Amtrak, the national railroad passenger carrier, is trying to figure out where it fits in; CEO Richard Anderson has backed off his idea of replacing the middle part of the Los Angeles-Chicago train with an overnight bus, but his plans for the future of Amtrak’s 15 long-distance trains (two serve Davis) are unknown. George Chilson, a California member of the Rail Passengers Association Board of Directors, talks about these subjects, and how to solve Amtrak’s chronic problems, in a return visit today to Davisville.

Patrick Van Dyke Talks Music and Community Radio, Recorded May 17th, 2019

Fri, 05/17/2019 - 5:10pm | Pieter Pastoor

p van dyke.jpeg

This show was recorded during our 2019 spring fund raising week. Please consider giving to one hell of a community radio station. DONATE HERE KDRT.org

With Patrick in the studio we talked about live music and played some local bands. Patrick also stressed the impotance of communty radio in the arts.

Patrick Van Dyke can be seen all over Northern California as he absorbs and appreciates live music. So he is my guest this week as we explore his love of music and how community radio helps so many budding artists find a voice and a platform.

We played songs from The Big Poppies, Boot Juice, The Midnight Dip, The Nickel Slots, The Polyorchids and Khruangbin.

Harry Greer (HG) is an artist/musician and the founder of the Davis rebel art and music collective known as BRAINMELTER.

BRAINMELTER (at brainmelter.net) is a group of Davis natives dedicated to making Davis/Yolo a haven for the arts and to changing the world through hip art and sick music. Each of the Brainmelters have a completely different style and genre, which means that there’s definitely something for everyone. Hip hop, pop punk, folk rock, cringecore, hardcore, vaporwave, it’s all of it. The whole collective adds up to some fun and colorful local counter culture.
