Pass The Peas! James Brown & The JB's on The Grapevine, May 19th

Hey out there Grapevine listeners...get on the good foot and dance to the music of the James Brown band! Join us for a special broadcast featuring not only James Brown, but one of his most famous backing bands, The JB's.

The JB's put out a few records that were right "in the pocket"...tons of prime funk and cool grooves for days. Each of these releases were designed to let the JB's stretch it out a with their own solid soul sounds. But you WILL hear the mighty influence of Butane James as he produced the recording sessions. And we got the best of 'em right here on The Grapevine.

Tune in live this Thursday from 7 -8 pm, catch a replay locally here in Davis or hit the K-Dirt achives for access to this broadcast.

Male and female represent the two sides of the great radical dualism. But in fact they are perpetually passing into one another. Fluid hardens to solid, solid rushes to fluid. There is no wholly masculine man, no purely feminine woman.

And something I just found that is a real nice read in relation to the sounds on the broadcast:

Rolling Stones, Kaylin Haught, Red Hot Chili Peppers, W.S. Merwin, and the Charlie Daniels Band; Mountain Mama says yes

God Says Yes To Me
Kaylin Haught
I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic
and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
she calls me that sometimes
she said you can do just exactly
what you want to
Thanks God I said
And is it even okay if I don't paragraph
my letters
Sweetcakes God said
who knows where she picked that up
what I'm telling you is
Yes Yes Yes

4) Yes I Will, Michael Franti 4:20
5) Harvest Moon, Neil Young 5:05

10-Year Anniversary

I dreamed you brought me chickens
several hens
one sweet rooster
We didn’t have a permit or a coop
those chickens just clucked around the backyard
laying eggs among lilies and roses

I tossed the seed without knowing
set out pans to catch the rain
You smiled at my optimism
came up from behind
buried your head in my feathers
