Today, we're going to feature classic country tunes that the Dead covered over the years. We'll play the original, classic country tune, and then follow it with the Grateful Dead cover. We'll hear from Hank Williams, George Jones, Marty Robbins, Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson w/Kris Kristofferson. The Dead do all of these artists justice with their live performances of some of the most famous country tunes of all time. Dead Wax for 5pm on Dec 31st, 2014Wed, 12/31/2014 - 6:05pm | JesseJoin Pieter and Jesse on New Year’s Eve at 5 PM for a very special 2-hour, combined edition of Dead Wax and The Grapevine. We’ll reflect on the end of 2014 and the end of America’s longest war with some of our favorite anti-war and protest songs. As our military begins to transition roles from combat to support (http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/12/28/373597845/ceremony-in-afghanistan-officially-ends-americas-longest-war (link is external)), we’ll reflect on the decision makers and the consequences for our 13-year war through song. Many of our favorite artists put words to our emotions and sentiments better than we can express ourselves. We’ll feature some classic songs from Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Bruce Springsteen, and Black Sabbath. |
