Hayes Carll is our artist of the week! Americana is where all of the talent in country music has gone to hide and Hayes is one of our Americana stars. "I guess that you could say that I write degenerate love songs." Hayes' wry wit and intelligent lyrics lead to easy comparisons with John Prine, Guy Clark, and Townes Van Zandt. He's part Outlaw Country, part good ol' Rock and Roll, part Honky Tonk, part Classic Country... and 100% unique. It's only fitting that one of his major influences is Ray Wylie Hubbard and that they wrote a song together, Drunken Poet's Dream, which was the 1st track on his 2008 album: Trouble In Mind. On that same album, he covered the Tom Wait's tune, I Don't Wanna Grow Up. Also from that album, the track She Left Me For Jesus, won the 2008 Americana Music Awards Song of the Year. We're going to play 3 tracks from this excellent LP, plus 3 tracks from KMAG YOYO (2011) and 3 tracks from Little Rock (2005). It's a Hayes Fest!
