Classical Excursions

Greg LaTraille

Classical radio programs often focus on well-known light classics and ignore challenging and imaginative masterworks, especially from the rich repertoire of 20th century music, which is very diverse. This results in listeners who are unaware of many wonderful works. Excursions will present short and longer works by famous as well as less known composers, with insightful commentary by a composer with years of experience in radio, classical marketing, and music education.

Praise Time with Preacher

Praise Time with Preacher

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Live Tuesday 4-5pm
Replays Thursday 11pm-Friday 12am, Sunday 7-8am

The Melon Ball Stage.jpg

Williams of Watermelon Music visits kdrt,

Wyatt Williams, the first and current manager of booking and promotions at Watermelon Music, shares with us the story of Davis' newest live music venue: The Melon Ball (short for The Melon Ballroom). Situated adjacent to the beloved Davis music store, Watermelon Music, The Melon Ball is a 100 person hall that greets is audiences and artists with a professional and humble vibe. Past performers at The Melon Ball have remarked on the space's beauty and feel. The current owner of the hall and Watermelon Music, Jeff Simons, opened the venue for the purpose of having a local space for music teachers to host recitals, receptions, and other performances. The hall has since begun to take its first steps into becoming a regular spot for supporting the arts in and around Davis.

For those outside the listening area Listening Lyrics is streamed live on KDRT.

Album of the Week (2/7/18): King Krule - The Ooz

Wed, 02/07/2018 - 10:57am | Eunah

King Krule The Ooz

Album of the Week is King Krule's latest release "The Ooz"

King Krule (a.k.a. Zoo Kid, DJ JD Sports, Edgar the Beatmaker, Edgar the Breathtaker, Lankslacks, The Return of Pimp Shrimp) is a prolific musical prodigy. His 2013 debut album "6 Feet Beneath the Moon" completely blew my mind. 4 years later, his 2017 album had just as strong of an impact. It may seem like a long break between album #1 and #2, but he's been producing music non-stop (just not as "King Krule").

The most distinctive quality of his music is probably his vocal delivery--it sounds almost slack-jawed, at a surprisingly low-timbre. You'd think this would make his lyrics sound garbled, but NO. His lyrics are at times odd, breathtakingly beautiful, mysterious, creepy, and every time I listen to the album I get hypnotized listening to him essentially talk-sing accompanied by trip-hop beats & shimmering guitar.

Tune-in to the live broadcast 5-6PM tonight (2/8/18) to hear this gorgeous album in its entirety. Let it chill you out, bum you out, then lift you back up again.

Davisville, Feb. 5, 2018: An exit interview with Enterprise Editor Debbie Davis

Mon, 02/05/2018 - 6:05pm | Bill Buchanan

Debbie Davis.jpg

In early March, Debbie Davis will step down as editor of the Davis Enterprise after holding the job since the early 1980s. Today’s Davisville amounts to an exit interview as she talks about the job, journalism, what she'll miss about living in Davis, parting advice for the community, and what comes next—both for her, and for the paper. She’ll be succeeded by Sebastian Oñate, who is scheduled to appear on the next Davisville; her husband Bruce Gallaudet (he’s also retiring) will be replaced by Wayne Tilcock as sports editor.
