Praise Time with Preacher

Praise Time with Preacher

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

Live Tuesday 4-5pm
Replays Thursday 11pm-Friday 12am, Sunday 7-8am

Roots, Shoots and Leaves

Roots, Shoots and Leaves' DJ Tree has a theory of music that involves a tree. Suffice it to say that it involves a trinity — an exploration of themes and connections among recording artists — and otherwise very few boundaries. Listen for music old and new, known and unknown. And if you listen long enough, you may experience some musical enlightenment.

Live Tuesday 6-8pm
Replays Saturday 7-9pm

59. Beneath the Roots (Part 2)

Mon, 10/31/2022 - 3:45pm | Rohan

CA Reforestation TOR.jpg

This year California had over 6000 wildfires that burned 300,000 acres across the state. Triggered by rising temperatures, drought, logging, and unattended campfires, these fires caused large-scale deforestation. In the second episode of a two-part series on reforestation, we hear about efforts to replenish California's urban and rural forests that have their roots right here in Davis. Erin Donley Marineau shares how Tree Davis enhances and expands our community's tree canopy. Jimi Scheid from the State of California's Department of Forestry and Fire Protection tells us about L.A. Moran Reforestation Center's 100-year journey in replenishing our state's forests.

The Folk Brothers for Oct. 26, 2022: Folk Songs of Black British Experience

Wed, 10/26/2022 - 11:10am | Peter Schiffman

Unknown.jpeg

Angeline Morrison, daughter of a Jamacian father and Scottish mother, has just released a landmark album, The Sorrow Songs: Folk Songs of Black British Experience. Each track features the story of an African -- mainly brought to Britain enslaved in the 18th century -- whose life stories were poignantly resurrected through Morrison's extensive research.

This morning, we played "Black John" about John Ystumilyn, who was brought to a Welsh estate as a boy in the early 1800s and subsequently became a freeman and a respected horticulturist.

Davisville, Oct. 24, 2022: A new way to deal with all the surplus stuff in Davis

Mon, 10/24/2022 - 5:30pm | Bill Buchanan

Community Mercantile.jpeg

Old rooftop TV antennas can become shovel handles. Discarded bedframes can be feedstock. Owners of balky vacuum cleaners can learn how to maintain them, instead of trash them. Boomers with a house full of unwanted possessions can get advice on handing them off to new uses. Community Mercantile, a new nonprofit store stocked with re-used items that offers this kind of serious recycling to the town, has its grand opening this Sunday, Oct. 30. Today on Davisville, we talk with co-founders Larry Fisher and Stephanie Koop about what they’re doing, and why.
