IMPLOSION is coming at you with the amazing sounds of the original Knack (U.K.), the Penny Peeps, Electric Bird, and more. Join your phenomenal host Nick Saloman at 5p Pacific, right here on your favorite station — KDRT 95.7 FM | KDRT.org!
It’s mostly blues, funk, and soul jazz tonight.
Tonight (March 8) at 6 p.m. Pacific, the Electric Compost Heap celebrates the impending green explosion we refer to as spring! We'll feature music from a slew of artists who are headed our way soon, including Lael Neale at Davis Odd Fellows Hall on March 17 (thanks Davis Live Music Collective ), Reverend Horton Heat and Dale Watson at Harlow's on March 18, and @Mike Clark and the Sugar Sounds , who will be at Sudwerk Brewing Co. on March 23! Lots of other musical compostables as well, and the official color of tonight's show is green!
Unfortunately my guest for today couldn't make it. Fortunately I put together a show with some weird but true stories, complemented by my awesome ability to pick some tunes to highlight the weirdness.
Check it out.
Local filmmakers Glenda and Jesse Drew join Dug Deep in the KDRT studio to discuss their film Open Country, a documentary about the history and politics of country music. It features interviews with Billy Bragg, Hazel Dickens, Jon Langford and Pete Seeger, to name just a few. The movie will be screened at Odd Fellows Hall, 2nd and D streets in downtown Davis, on Sunday, March 10 at 6 p.m. This screening is a benefit for KDRT with tickets available here. On tonight’s show:
Finding information and news about Davis is harder than it should be. The Enterprise still prints and posts local stories, but lacks the scope and heft it had before the rise of internet technology decimated newspapers as a business. Other paid sources of news and information have also retreated, turning what used to be a town commons for communication into a series of walled gardens, with information about local events and news scattered across a variety of formats, outlets, and channels. If the information is present at all.
Autumn Labbe-Renault, the executive director of Davis Media Access (the parent of KDRT), thinks DMA could work with the community to create a new source of information and news about Davis, and eventually Yolo County. The venture has the working title of civic information hub. The idea is in its very early stages, and we talk about it today on Davisville.
