Broken Glass will perform live on KDRT

I cannot think of a better way to feature these young artists as Listening Lyrics' last show of 2019.

Broken Glass, formed in December 2018, are 8th-graders who practice in their drummer’s garage. Performing at small gigs and school events, the band started by playing cover songs, and was soon creating originals. They play a variety of genres, but most often stay within the wider rock style. The members are Alexander (keyboard/vocals/guitar), Alden (guitarist),  Everett (bass), and Oscar (drums).

Thankful for our Listeners, Programmers and Community's Generous Support

As we look back upon a busy fall, we are grateful for the generosity shown during our 2019 Rootstock fundraising events. We greatly appreciate the MANY listeners who donated, for this support is truly what allows us to continue to produce our 24/7 local broadcast and streaming.

We celebrated our 15th anniversary at a diverse array of community venues, and were thrilled to make new friends, and to reconnect with longtime partners. In mid-November, we hit the "Grassroots Trail" with events that included Berryessa Brewing in Winters with The Muddy Waders, The Barn and Pantry Tuesday Open Mic Night in Dixon with Hattie Craven, 2nd Wednesday Jazz Night at the Root of Happiness Kava Bar in Davis, a special KDRT benefit at Woodstock's Pizza with The West Nile Ramblers, and concluded in Woodland at Sunday Sessions at Blue Note Brewing. Each venue is a hub for communities to gather and support their local musicians.

High Country Music Radio December 10th @ 11:00 a.m. Pacific

Musicians wrote songs and sang of passenger and freight trains, reflecting their affinity with the railroad as a way of  travel and freedom. Trains are the theme on this week’s High Country Music Radio (Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. to Noon) with Rusty featuring traditional and contemporary songs of the railroad.

Join us tomorrow as we listen to Leon Russell with the Newgrass Revival, Jim and Jessie, Greensky Bluegrass, Dale Ann Bradley, Arlo Guthrie, a bluegrass version of the Monkee's "Last Train to Clarksville" and more  for an hour of song about those long steel rails.

The Power of Music on Listening Lyrics, Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, 4 p.m.

power of Music, kdrt, listening lyrics, pieter pastoor, justin cox

Let's all play along. This week's show will have two guests: Sue from Southern California, and David from Portland, Ore., and both will answer the questions below. We will play the songs and talk a bit with them about our favorite topic: MUSIC. Let's see what they come up with.

“Where words leave off, music begins.”  ― Heinrich Heine

1. Has a particular song ever moved you into action?

2. Has a particular song ever moved you to tears?

3. If you could send one song into space for beings to hear in the far distant future, what song would that be?

4. What is your go-to “feel good”song?

5. What song would you like played at your celebration of life?

Join Us on Dec. 3 for the Davis City Council Meeting Proclamation Ceremony, and on Dec. 5 at Odd Fellows Hall for Annual Thursday Live! Holiday Show

You are invited to join us at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Davis City Hall (23 Russell Blvd.), before the Davis City Council meeting, as we gather to celebrate the 6:30 p.m. proclamation presentation in honor of KDRT's 15th anniversary. We are very grateful for this ongoing collaboration between our many volunteers and our listener community.

And then two days later, KDRT will attend (and record) the annual Thursday Live! Holiday Show 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Davis Odd Fellows Hall. It's always a festive event, and many people stop by after attending the Downtown Davis Holiday Open House and Candlelight Parade that same evening. The show features the "Odd Star Band" - the talented "house band" that brought you "Summer  of Love" and "The British Invasion" concerts not long ago.

Jazz After Dark November 26 2019

The November 26 show is a special rebroadcast of upbeat music suitable for dancing, or at least tapping your toes. Featuring: Earl Bostic, Benny Goodman, The Buddy DeFranco Quartet, Nat King Cole, Gene Krupa, Ella Fitzgerald & The Paul Smith Trio, Gerry Mulligan & Johnny Hodges, Louis Armstrong, Ben Webster & Johnny Hodges, Joni James, Zoot Sims, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Dianne Reeves, and Dal Richards & His Orchestra.

On Tuesday’s High Country Music Radio, music to whet your appetite for the coming week!

No one really needs any help gearing up for the beautiful table being set for the holiday season, but in the spirit of gorging oneself on pie, turkey, ham, and all manner of traditional treats, Rusty will serve-up bluegrass songs to get your stomach growling.

Are you ready for some “Cornbread and Butter Beans” and “Hot Corn and Cold Corn” with “Angeline the Baker”?
