Featuring the music of Duke Ellington tonight!
Featherweight is an American "rock" band based in Sacramento, CA. I put the word rock in quotes because these young musicians are more than rock. They have a unique capacity to create a rich sound around their writing capabilities. The vocals in their music are a rare gift that grab your ears. A fusion of sound that has earned them the respect in the music scene in Northern California.
Listening Lyrics is thrilled that they are this weeks guest.

Featuring Cal Tjader!
Special guest hosts Sara and Dan ( of the Awesome Patrol Show fame) will host this edition of Listening Lyrics. Their guest will be VANAVEER. VANDAVEER is the song-singing, record-making, globetrotting project penned and put forth by folk-pop tunesmith Mark Charles Heidinger. Born in cloudy Ohio, raised in Kentucky, and currently camped out in the nation's capital, Vandaveer offers up melodic Americana that is both haunting and easy, forlorn and welcoming, with stories as universal as the songs they inhabit.
Join us for an interview on The Golden Road with former members of The Grateful Dead, Bob Bralove and Tom Constanten. Bob and Tom will be discussing their wonderful running collaboration affectionately known as "Dose Hermanos" and we will spotlight their new release, "Batique" which features their exquisite piano playing created in a most unique and improvisational way!
The broadcast of interview took take place on Saturday, April 5 on The Golden Road on KDRT.
Here's a link to the playlist and more information about the broadcast:
April 3, 2014's edition of AotW will feature the sophmore release of James Murphy's alternative dance project, LCD Soundsystem... 3 years and 1 day since their last performance ever which was at Madison Square Garden to the bittersweet embrace of their adoring fans.
The Spokes are UC Davis' only all-female a cappella group and can often be found singing on campus and around the town of Davis.
The Spokes have taken performance tours throughout California, stopping in places like Los Angeles, Berkeley, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco. Their goals for the future include broadening their already diverse repertoire, performing as much as possible, and bringing a cappella music back into the mainstream. Just as a bicycle wheel cannot spin without all its spokes, this all-female, all-fabulous group depends on the dedication of every girl to achieve its goals and remain one of Northern California’s most unique and talented music groups!
We acknowledge business contributions to KDRT with brief on-air messages called underwriting. Underwriting is to community radio what advertising is to commercial radio. The difference, however, is clear: Commercial stations may air as much as 18 minutes of advertising time per hour. KDRT airs less than one minute of underwriting per hour, which means our underwriters aren't lost in a sea of commercial hype.

Jazz after Dark (with Don Shor) is a laid back musical weekly journey into the sounds of jazz. Its hard to explain this show in a sentence or two so just take a look at the March 25th show write up "Jazz across five decades tonight. Some sax by Sam Butera, Paul Gonsalvez, Johnny Hodges, and Gerry Mulligan. Piano by Thelonious Monk, Vince Guaraldi, and Butch Thompson. Vocals by Etta Jones, and Ella Fitzgerald. And a special thank-you to Toots Thielemans, 91 years old, as he retires after 65 years of jazz harmonica and whistling!"
