Album of the Week (3/12) Eddy Current Suppression Ring ~ Primary Colours

Primary Colours is the second album by Australian garage punk band Eddy Current Suppression Ring. The album was recorded in a suburb of Melbourne over a 24-hour period in August 2007. The album was first released on Aarght! Records in Australia only on 5 May 2008, then on 9 September 2008 on Goner Records in the United States, and finally in the United Kingdom on Melodic Records on 17 August 2009. (Wikipedia)

I was extremely lucky to catch a set of theirs at Serra Bowl in July 2010. Supporting acts included: Thee Oh Sees, Fresh & Onlys, Sic Alps, and Ty Segall. One of the best shows I'll ever witness, no doubt. Just had the poster framed and remembered how much I loved this band. (DT)

Album of the Week - Fiery Furnaces "Bitter Tea" - TH 3/5 5P

Fiery Furnaces Bitter Tea cover image This week's AotW is "Bitter Tea," the 2006 release by the Fiery Furnaces, a band composed of brother and sister Eleanor and Matt Friedberger. It’s a trippy, inspired piece of work that features a tinny upright piano--dragged from the lounge of a depression-era bordello--functioning as the signature instrument, stitching together the patchwork songs with Matt's speedy little trills. Toss in Eleanor’s high, clipped voice; some moog; backward vocals; and other electronic and studio madness...these kids are really on to something! :> DJ Dug Deep hosts.

Listening Lyrics March 6, 2015 at 4:00PM with Pierre Bensusan

Coming to us from France is one of the worlds most celebrated guitarist. -  - Described by the L.A. Times as "one of the most unique and brilliant acoustic guitar veterans in the world music scene today", Pierre Bensusan was voted "Best World Music Guitar Player in 2008" by Guitar Player Magazine Readers Choice. His name became synonymous with contemporary acoustic guitar genius, long before the terms New Age, New Acoustic Music or World Music were invented. He has the ability to make a single guitar sound like an entire band as he brings the audience on a mesmerizing musical journey. And yet, Bensusan is more than what any musician or music lover expects from a guitarist. He is a composer as well as a bilingual and a brave improvisational vocalist, melding whistles and resonant low notes with something like his own scat technique.
