Gordon Allen was truly a delight to have on the show. Gordon is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter based out of Oakland, California. Starting with the Scottish fiddle at the age of 4, his passion for music has grown to encompass a wide variety of styles. On the violin, this has included jazz, folk, celtic, bluegrass, r&b and reggae. As a vocalist, he has done everything from shape-note singing to opera to beatboxing. Among other credits, he was introduced to choral music by the legendary Chanticleer, briefly competed in a barbershop quartet, and directed a pop acappella group at UC Davis. In college, his tastes as a dance facilitator and budding producer lead him to house music, electroswing, and glitch hop. Gordon's current projects aim to bring together these diverse influences – his sounds have been described as "gospel folk" and "post apocalyptic railroad blues." As a musician, producer and performer, Gordon hopes to unite people of all backgrounds and make them dance. You can follow him online at soundcloud.com/buskproject

QuidZin visits KDRT A new band in town is not especially newsworthy, but then this is no ordinary band. QuidZin out of Woodland, CA, has created a unique sound, and that does make it newsworthy. Just for that reason I have the pleasure of hosting them on Listening Lyricsthis Friday 1/22. Members are Jim Hillard (brass), Randy Berka (bass), and Naomi Rogers-Hefley (fiddle). Their genre is a mix of jazz, Irish folk, and rock. Listen in as we explore their sound.

Music and movies and how they compliment and affect each other. Who better to have someone talk about this than Andre. Andre Martinez started his film career at age 9 with simple LEGO animations he shot in his room. He began doing more serious film work in high school, and has been committed to film production as a career path ever since. He has produced/directed several short films and webisodes, as well as produced/directed a 30-minute feature (Second of Ypres) and a 60-minute feature (Unforgotten). He has two YouTube channels: StealthyNinjaMedia and S Ninja. He is currently a freshman at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles studying film. We will be playing some great movie scores. All Listening Lyric shows are live on Fridays from 4:00PM to 5:00PM.(PST) on KDRT 95.7FM

Trombonist, composer, and B.A.C. Endorsing Artist Jon Hatamiya is one of the most promising trombonists to come out of the Sacramento area and is rapidly making a name for himself on both the New York and California music scenes. He was recognized in the August 1st, 2011 edition of Jet Magazine as the only trombonist on Wynton Marsalis’s list of “Who’s Got Next”, which highlighted the next generation of emerging jazz artists. Jon also received a 2015 Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award from ASCAP for his merits as a composer and arranger.

Listen now to our last show of 2015, it's all about bagpipes as local bagpipe celebrity Cameron Scott brings his talent to the studio. As a young lad, Cameron took up the bagpipes and even spent some time with a bagpipe band in Scotland. That band won third position in the world during the yearly championships. On top of that, Cameron is an awesome person with a great radio voice. I have been looking forward to this all year. Join us for another great hour!

Andrew Castro is a Sacramento based singer songwriter. His new EP "RED HEARTS" is now riding on the EP chart of iTunes. Andrew has been on the show before but now as an up and coming "star" we will talk about his new release. Andrew will be joined by singer/songwriter and producer Casey Groat. Andrew's acoustic upbeat pop styled music is catchy and melodic while providing lyrics that are thoughtful and personal and can relate to anyone who has been in love and out of love in any type of relationship. His live shows are high energy and though he is a solo performer his live looping and the rhythms and sounds created on his guitar provide a sound, power and energy most songwriters don't have.(link is external)

This weeks show features music from an older generation of songwriters to be performed by Dan Dressen. As a teen in the 1960’s Dan Dressen enjoyed music on the radio. He started playing guitar around the time when folk music was popular. But in the 1970’s Dan started to hear singer/song writers who were just starting their music careers and who performed at small local venues, like coffee houses and the like. It was these lesser known musicians, at that time, that influenced Dan the most, artists such as John Hiatt, Guy Clark, Robin and Linda Williams, Tom Paxton, John Prine, Joni Mitchell, Tom Russell and others.Over the years Dan played guitar mostly for his own enjoyment. His fans say he does “talking songs” or plays ballads but Dan just likes to play songs that tell stories.
