The Chambers Street Players strike again with a full cast of four voices doing the KDRT Nature Show.  This week the Bird Reserve is visited and a real bird finally identified.  There is also a Mark Twain selection about the quaintness of women, and that our two main ladies are.  Nancy Streeter from the Musical Comedy world is a great addition to the CST.

We return again to Mark Twain.  He is the best.  After his death, in 1939 "Letters from the Earth" was finally to be printed for the first time.  Twain died in 1910.  Why the wait?  It's a long story you can look up, but today Ruth reads the chapter: "Extract from Eve's Autobiography."  It's all the fun you would expect from Twain.

In 1903, Mary Austin's book "The Land of Little Rain," was in print and selling very well.  Austin was born in 1868, and deserves to be read because she wrote well and movingly.  She records what she saw and keeps a record of the time and people.  Ruth reads "The Pocket Hunter" today.  This is a chapter describing the gold seeker still on the hunt.

And we're back with Mark Twain and his book "Roughing It."  Today Ruth reads the chapter about Grandfather's Ram, and a more silly story with regional accents can not be found.  Hope you enjoy this Twain story with accents written for all time to be pronounced correctly.  We've lost so many of these charming ways of speaking.  Twain gives a good record of the time.

KDRT is open again so Ruth is reading "Curanderos" by Arnold A. Rojas, and part of "Scavengers" by Mary Austin.  Both these selections are from "California Heartland" by Editors Gerald W. Haslam and James D. Houston.  Because "Curanderos" had a humorous side Ruth included the Stan Freberg "St. George and the Dragonet."  Happy New Year and remember to laugh!
