In the 1980s, oneof the best-loved performers of Women's Music was Judy Fjell. She wrote her own songs, performed widely, and was an uplifting singer to listen to. In 2016, Judy Fjell re-issued her 1985 album as a CD -- "This Side, That Side". -- which is the focus of this episode. [Re-played in 2021.]
Since then, Judy has continued singing, writing, an performing -- but she has also taught many others to sing and write. Her music camps ... well, I think she says it best on her current (2021) website at https://judyfjell.com/ --
"Judy has written and recorded over 20 album collections, published several songbooks and ukulele instructional books, and continues to teach and perform from her home in Helena, Montana."

When the debut CD "Osmosis" came out from the local band Hard Water, it was NEW! (and 2009). Over ten years later, we have heard these songs and this Davis band at many places around town, often assisting with fundraisers for local nonprofits. Over the years they have reconfigured, added differant members, played lots of places, and transformed in many ways. Yet they remain true to their beginnings -- sharing with us good music and good times. This show was originally broadcast in fall 2009, and we re-air it for your timeless enjoyment.
If you would like to hear what the band is doing more recently here's a link to their Facebook Page and to their website -- https://hardwatermusic.com/

This is in memory of Bill Hollingshead who died last month. He was a UCD alum, a native of Woodland, and the son of a famous photographer. During an interview on That's Life in 2009, Bill shared much of his history as well as that of his father -- Paul W Hollingshead. We re-air that interview now so that Bill's friends can hear his voice one more time.
Bill's obituary was published by the Daily Democrat (Woodland CA) and is online at: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dailydemocrat/obituary.aspx?n=william-...

Do you remember when Freddie Oakley was our Elections official for Yolo County? She has done so much more than that! I've know Freddie for many years, interviewed her here several times, had her as a guest on my television series back in the 1990s, and she even hosted that show once ("Thoughtfulness" on DCTV). Today on That's Life, we reminisce about the old days (good old days? bad old days?) and hear what Freddie has been doing since she retired.
Retired? HAH! Busier than ever is more like it! Hope you enjoy the chat.

Lisa Henderson is a dynamo! She is always very busy, yet never too busy to help if help is needed. Lois and Lisa have worked together on many genealogy activities -- Davis Genealogy Club presentations (and now zoom meetings), the DGC website, IGGC (the International German Genealogy Conference) in 2019 and other events. We have also shared some just-for-fun times. This episode of "That's Life" was recorded during the pandemic (summer of 2020) and does not have current announcements.
History! It's all HISTORY !! (Family history, that is.) Enjoy!

REPLAY about birds (from 3 January 2019) today on "That's Life".
Mary Schiedt chats with Lois about birds and other natural topics. A casual, comfortable conversation. Nothing urgent here; just learning a little more each time we talk.
