Lois Richter’s format for That’s Life is mostly interviews. Recurring topics include Davis activities and groups; work and life choices; philosophy and theory; plus birding, cooking, art, and other passions. Lois occasionally breaks into music — from ballads to the slack key sounds of Hawaii to golden oldies rock 'n' roll — but mostly there is just talk.
To suggest a topic for discussion or a person to interview, text Lois or leave a message in the comments here.
Lois seldom (but occasionally) updates her other website. Check it out at https://BirdingWithLois.global

That's What's Happening in Davis in Fall 2009Thu, 09/24/2009 - 1:00pm | Lois RichterLong-time friend and city publicist Bob Bowen stopped by to let us know "What's Happening in Davis in the Fall of 2009". Lots!! |
Freddie Oakley, Yolo County Clerk-Recorder, on "That's Life", 17 Sept 2009Thu, 09/17/2009 - 1:00pm | Lois RichterFreddie Oakley is a wonder! As Yolo County's Clerk-Recorder, she not only keeps our elections running; she also finds new and creative ways to address problems as they arise, looks to the future and offers solutions for NEW problems BEFORE they arise, and is an expert resource to other counties and states (and researchers) about election issues. A frequent guest on my old DCTV show "Thoughtfulness", Freddie has helped us understand everything from what State regulations affect our elections -- to how the gubernatorial recall worked -- to details of being a voter. On my 2009 radio show, Freddie describes legislation (which is now on the Governor's desk) that will test a pilot program of "all-mail balloting" in Yolo and two other Counties. Freddie also shared her personal plans for the future (yes, she'll run again!), her thoughts on many topics, and her new service-dog-in-training puppy. |

That's Paul Hollingshead and his photographsThu, 09/03/2009 - 1:00pm | Lois RichterAn interview with a son about treasuring his father's collection. Paul W Hollingshead was a photographer in Woodland for over 40 years. Paul and Vera started out with a portrait studio, but found that many folks also wanted pictures of their team, company, or memorable event -- including the 1937 photo (at left) titled "Sweethearts and Police wagon, 21 July 1937" (taken at of a Woodland festival). Because Paul kept all those negatives, he had an historical treasure trove for Yolo County. His son, Bill Hollingshead, is donating some prints to the Yolo County Archives -- which is where Lois met him. And Bill is arranging for displays at Gibson House Museum and elsewhere. This very interesting interview shares the Hollingshead family history as well as lots of Yolo County history. That's life. Enjoy! |
