Album of the Week, April 14, 2021: Live from Lockdown with Rita Hosking and Sean FederWed, 04/14/2021 - 5:10pm | DannyOn Jan. 29, 2021, The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley hosted Rita Hosking and Sean Feder for a livestream concert. Soon after receiving the audio tracks, they, with Conrad Sisk and Steve O'Neill, released the concert as “Live from Lockdown," available as a CD or download. Their daughters, Hava Feder and Kora Feder, illustrated and designed the album cover. Rita's father, originally from the mountains in Northern California, worked the night shift at a sawmill as a part of the area’s logging industry. Her great-grandfather, from Cornwall, England, was an underground gold miner in the region. The stories of her family and upbringing find their way into Rita’s songs on this album. |

Album of the Week: Oingo Boingo: Dead Man's PartyWed, 03/24/2021 - 4:00pm | admin"Just Another Day" was featured as the opening theme for the 1985 film That Was Then... This Is Now. It also appears in season 2, episode 1 of the Netflix series Stranger Things where it underscores Hopper's introduction scene, though somewhat anachronistically, as the episode takes place on October 28, 1984, a full year before the actual release date of the Dead Man's Party album. The title track appears in the 1986 film Back to School, wherein the band performs the song live at a party.[2] It also appeared in the Chuck television series, in the episode "Chuck Versus the Couch Lock". |

Album of the Week, Fred Niel, SessionsWed, 03/03/2021 - 3:30pm | Pieter PastoorMoody, bluesy, and melodic, Fred Neil was one of the most compelling folk-rockers to emerge from Greenwich Village in the mid-'60s. His albums showcased his extraordinarily low, rich voice on intensely personal and reflective compositions, sounding like a cross between Tim Buckley and Tim Hardin. His influence was subtle but significant; before forming the Lovin' Spoonful, John Sebastian played harmonica on Neil's first album, which also featured guitarist Felix Pappalardi, who went on to produce Cream. The Jefferson Airplane featured Neil's "Other Side of This Life" prominently in their concerts, and dedicated a couple of songs ("Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil" and "House at Pooneil Corner") to him. On the B-side of "Crying" is Neil's "Candy Man," one of Roy Orbison's bluesiest efforts. Stephen Stills has mentioned Neil as an influence on his guitar playing. |

On a lark, I landed on your station this evening. Can you please tell me the name of the group featured in your Album of the Week this evening? They were AMAZING!!!
So sorry, but we have no idea what featured on May 8th! There was a last minute DJ change and we think something was played that was archived... it might perhaps have been the initial AotW episode, which was Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
If that wasn't it, reply again and we can maybe try harder to figure it out!
In compliance with FCC regs, we will not be streaming episodes of AotW.
Please tune in live or check out the albums on your own and thank us later.
