Davis has a very unique musical scene — from the Mondavi Center’s formal performances to the local clubs where bands and upcoming artists hone their craft. Local and visiting musicians are captured by Jim Buchanan on our Live Tracks program. On Davis Music Connections, we play past Davis bands of note, along with those who are currently touring, taking a little bit of Davis to the rest of the world.

* The SUDWERKS’s kickoff party on FRIDAY evening, with the Polyorchids, Kaz Mirblouk, The Nickel Slots, and Boca do Rio…

* The K-DiRT Stage at ARMADILLO MUSIC on SATURDAY, with Lillian Frances, Tony Bonacci, Gabe Lewin, Garrett Pierce, Hannah Jane Kile, and Pets…

* The WOODSTOCK’s afternoon party on SUNDAY, with the Golden Gate String Quartet, Be Brave Bold Robot, The Five Thirty, and the West Nile Ramblers.

As George Harrison sang "All Things Must Pass" - Tonight is the final episode of DEAD WAX which was created and hosted by Jesse Deere. I had a hand in getting Jesse on the air but tonight, as he celebrates his 100th and final show, he taught me that music is more than just the joy of hearing it but discovering what makes it so. Dead Wax will leave a big hole in KDRT's line up. Jesse played several genres but the main focus was Americana and vinyl. He alsways had a theme to his show and I loved hearing his comments on why he selected the songs he played. So to sum up his 100 shows on KDRT, we have loved having him in the studio and have been blessed to be able to broadcast his passion of vinyl.

Mardi Morillo is a singer-songwriter out of the Bay Area. In a former life, he worked as a CIO in the healthcare industry. He found his life's passion in music when he quit due to losing partial vision from glaucoma. Born legally blind, this further loss of vision, refocused him to pursue something more meaningful. Something creative. After picking up the guitar to learn one song ("Stop This Train" by John Mayer) he began writing his own songs and music has changed his life.

He is regularly performing at shows throughout California and is a songwriter in residence at Crema Coffee in San Jose. With music that is influenced by many contemporary artists like Adele, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, he aims to inspire others and make universal songs that touch on themes of love, isolation, and hope.

Divine Intervention strikes once again at 7p PT on KDRT. This week, we plan on some brand new tunes, including the latest RAWK from '68 and Shred Flintstone, new pop from Palehound, and some wonderful electronic weirdness via new releases from Com Truise and JNTHN STEIN. Country and western music used to be played on the same radio stations, but they're not the same music styles. Can you tell the difference between Cowboy songs and Country songs? Nancy offers her "4 Markers of a Cowboy Song". She and Doug will play various songs and use the markers to categorize tunes by their genre. But, regardless of the genre, it's all great music on this show!

Fifty years ago, the Summer of Love made San Francisco an international focus of pop culture, and people are still talking about the ripples. Today we join the conversation by talking with Gary Lee Yoder, a Davis guitarist/singer/songwriter who lived both here and in San Franciso in 1967. We discuss the Davis band Oxford Circle (he was a member), sitting next to Jann Wenner as Wenner typed up the first issue of Rolling Stone, and events that summer in Davis ... including a concert in Central Park where Yoder called the bluff of a police officer who said the band was playing too loud. In the show's second segment, we interview Steve Faith of Davis during this year’s Pin A Go Go pinball festival, which has grown too big to stick around at its longtime home at the Dixon May Fairgrounds.
