Enjoy the 5th Annal Davis Jazz Festival in Downtown Davis on October 21 and 22!

The Festival is organized by theJohn Natsoulas Art Center. On Friday night, October 21, Dr. Andy Jones of UC Davis will announce the winners of the Jack Kerouac Poetry Contest and at 7 pm we will hear the World renowned poet, Neeli Cherkovski read from his latest poetry. The evening will include a dance performance by the Linda Bair Dance Company and live music by the Toni Passerelli Jazz Trio.

On Saturday, October 22,the Jazz Festival will start at noon; six performance painters will accompany the participating jazz bands, creating a unique, inspiring and indelible art experience. All the festival's events are free! The festival is hosted by the Cultural Action Committee. We hope you enjoy this year’s Davis Jazz Festival!

Meantime Sounds So Sweet will continue it's exploration of the History of Jug Band Music by looking at it's rediscovery in the 50's on into the 60's. Dave Van Ronk, Even Dozen Jug Band, the Quarrymen, Fritz, Jim Kweskin, Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions. Will we get all the way to some 13th Floor Elevators?

Magical Music Box Pink Floyd Special Broadcast

In celebration of the remastering of all Pink Floyd studio albums, and the release of the Dark Side of the Moon "Immersion" Boxset, this week KDRT DJ Dr. Strangely Strange will dedicate the entire Magical Music Box show to Pink Floyd. Featured will be the newly released recording of a legendary 1974 performance of Dark Side of the Moon. "The Fish" & Band to play at Odd Fellows Hall

KDRT will be on-hand for a LIVE broadcast of a very special concert at the Odd Fellows Hall, Thursday, Oct. 20th at 415 Second Street, 7-10pm. Barry "The Fish" Melton will be joined by his world-class, 60s-era, Bay-Area band as part of a fundraising effort to support an upcoming Habitat for Humanity house-building project in Brazil. Barry will be joined by his friends Peter Albin (Big Brother) on bass, Austin DeLone (Norton's Knockouts, Elvis Costello) on keyboards, Roy Blumenfeld (Blues Project, Seatrain) on drums, and Mike Hinton (Merl Saunders Rainforest Band) on guitar. As lead guitarist with Country Joe and The Fish, Barry Melton has played at rock's most iconic venues, including the Monterey Pop Festival (1967) and Woodstock-3 Days of Peace & Music (1969). Tickets for admission to the benefit concert will be available at the door, at Watermelon Music in Davis, and online from KDRT. Admission is $10; With a $15 donation, Barry Melton's latest CD, "Jamasutra" will be included with your admission.
