This week's episode of Civilization Phaze IV will have pieces by American composers such as Leroy Anderson, Lou Harrison, Jerod Tate, Timothy Archambault, and Brian Wilson (yup, THE Beach Boy).  Oh, and one Dutchman named Simeon ten Holt.

Not only is November 25th just 2 days away from Turkey Day - it is also the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women - of course that should be EVERY day but this day was selected to commemorate the deaths of the Mirabal sisters in the Dominican Republic (they were murdered because they opposed the dictatorship of then-ruler Rafael Trujillo).

An hour of cool jazz: West Coast cool and Latin jazz guitar.

I heard this young man two years ago and finally he is available to appear on LISTENING LYRICS. KDRT is thrilled that Ryan will spend an hour in the studio. Ryan McBride is a Davis-native guitarist, singer, and songwriter. His mellow acoustic style takes influence from greats such as Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, alongside many other contemporary folk writers such as Jack Johnson and The Tallest Man On Earth. His musical repertoire includes a collection of covers and originals. He is currently in Davis to finish up classes but will send in his credits to receive his degree Bachelors in Biology this fall from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

In preparation of their performance at The Grad on Sunday evening, we'll celebrate Sylvan Esso. 

Wikipedia: Sylvan Esso is the eponymous debut studio album by American electropop group Sylvan Esso, released May 12, 2014 via Partisan Records. The band consists of singer Amelia Meath (of Mountain Man) and producer Nick Sanborn (of Megafaun). As of July 2014, the album has reached #39 on the Billboard 200 and #7 on the Independent Albums chart.
