Truly a champion of international community radio, Ellinger's travels have covered 300 cities around the world, and 50 countries since 9/11. As I post this blog he is en route to La Plata, Argentina for AMARC X. We talked about his inspiring trips to Haiti and West Africa, as well as the sorry state of student radio in Houston and pirate radio in Austin. As the paperwork for the sale of KTRU to the University of Houston is submitted to the FCC, you can see secret documents uncovered by Jim that show the buzzards have been circling Rice Radio for months. Jim was also on the scene to interview an FCC official as a popular pirate operation in Austin was shut down last week. On Wednesday morning's show I also covered the local election results. You can see the returns from Yolo County by clicking HERE. I've
gotta apologize, because I didn't realize on Wednesday morning that the County didn't necessarily clarify when the Propositions had gone the other way statewide. My bad. I ran out of time for the Popcorn Lung segment about Netflix banning a certain movie. I thought the movie was terrible, but I still disagree with the decision. More on this next week. The one Undercovered News story I was able to squeeze into the show was about a young man named Steve Li who is expected to be deported by ICE any day now. You can read more about his situation by clicking HERE. Check out the playlist from the show by clicking HERE.

Thank you all for your comments and concerns regarding the now imminent demise of beloved, if "underutilized," KTRU-FM in Houston. What is particularly loathsome here; not just the underhandedness of the actions and attitudes of Leebron and his ilk, is the real tragedy of the complete loss, for nary a penny, of the 91.5FM translator, that could have saved Rice Radio from being just another internet audio port.
You would think that a University of the caliber of Rice could put its hands on, and in, better management than this....apparently not.
Will Leebron deliver the final insult and take the station off the air as a Christmas present to Rice students?
My condolences,
