That's Teenage Gold 1964-1972

Feeling sentimental this week.

Looked thru the HUGE collections of Golden Oldies I have -- mostly on the compitation CDs in the AM Gold series -- and decided to do a show of some of the songs that were popular when I was in high school and starting college.

So here you have my own choice for "Teenage Gold" -- songs from 1964 to 1972

That's a Hot Show -- Encaustic

Adele Louise Shaw is an encaustic artist and teacher in Davis. Her work is known world-wide, and her art classes have been drawing enthusiastic students for years. Listen to hear about this fascinating art form -- newly revived in the west, it's origins are over 2000 years old!

What is encaustic? -- the substance, the process, and the finished work all share the same word. Should a piece of encaustic art be flat and painterly or 3-D and sculptural? Should it have bold splashes of color or subtle transparent layers? Since one can include other materials into encaustic, should the art piece then be called "encaustic", "mixed media", or "collage"? Adele will tell us YES! Encaustic art allows freedom of expression on many levels; we are not limited to the 'shoulds' that abound elsewhere.

That's Getting Started with Genealogy

Today Lisa, Jan, and Lois -- three people interested and experienced in Genealogy -- share tips for anyone wanting to study their family's history.  Hear about resources and groups of like-minded-seekers.  From the local Davis Genealogy Club (DavisGenealogy.org), to historical societies and other groups focussed on the people of a particular PLACE, to regional groups that can help you find those local resources, to TOPICAL groups (German, adopted, military, railroad, etc), to SURNAME groups, to historical resources (newspapers, indexes, Find-a-Grave), to VITAL RECORDS (birth certificates, marriage records, etc) -- there is lots of information shared in this program.  Also stories about personal experiences that can be either cautions or inspirations.

That's Green Green GREEN

Another colorful music show  -- shades of GREEN!  that is, green in the song or album title or the performer's name.  Searched for "green", "emerald", "grass", and "hills".  Got back songs ranging in time from the 1800s, 1940s, the '60s, '70s, and even the 22nd century!  Some folk, some country, some jazz, and a bunch of rock.

An eclectic mix from Lois' personal collection.  Enjoy!

That's Come And Stay Music

Songs of homecoming and staying, travelling and returning.  From the Civil War, the 1940s, the 1960s, and on up to modern times -- here's another selection of songs from my own collection.  Fewer jazz/blues songs in this group; and more country.  With (of course!) one by John Denver!

This is the other half of my Coming and Going pair of shows. (This time I searched for: come, stay, home, travel, arrival, etcetera.)

That's Going, Going, Gone Music

"Okay, Lois; think of a topic for the next show. ...  Or maybe a THEME? ... "

Now that many folks are NOT coming and going, how about a show featuring music with those words?

I looked thru my personal collection and found a great many songs by searching for 'coming', 'going', and similar words .  TOO MANY songs, in fact, to fit into just one show.  So here  is "Going, Going, Gone"  --  the first of my pair of Coming and Going shows.

Lots of different albums, singers, and styles here -- including Lena Horne, The Beatles, John Denver -- and with song dates ranging thru the Civil War, the 1940s, '60s, '70s, and even some this century!  Hope you enjoy this eclectic selection ... with love, Lois.

That's City Business for Now

Bob Bowen has been working for the City of Davis for over 40 years.  In addition to his being in charge of Public Relations for the city, he is also a well-known historian of Davis.

Today Lois and Bob talk about how our businesses are doing; what plans there are to find more space for them to spread into when they re-open; what businesses are not returning; and what's happening with the "Davis Crafts and Vintae Fair" vendors.  We also talk about new physical amenities; how the City staff are holding up; and what procedural changes we might see soon.  Finally, we get personal -- chatting about wishes and ideas and general Davisite stuff.

I also tell him about 'bear hunting' in Davis (hence the picture of Hugs and friends in my car!)

Thanks for listening in.
