That's Life Archives

Music programs are only online for two weeks after they are broadcast.

That's Birding in April

BIrding is fun!  And it's something you can safely do with your family at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area near Davis.  This interview with birding-expert  Mary Scheidt was recorded outside, in a quiet spot behind her office off Chile Rd.  Although the headquarters building is closed and all the public events have been cancelled, the actual Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area is open every day from sunrise to sunset.  The driving loops allow you to use your car to get close to the birds without ever getting close to other people.

What might you see or hear today?  Listen to this episode to find out.  Go on out!  Fresh air is good for you and looking for birds is very relaxing.

That's Jazz Again, part 3

Don Shor talks more with us about JAZZ!

Part 1 was an overview of the history; part 2 showcased the most widely-known "divas"; and this, part 3, explores the women who sang and made jazz what it is and was.  More music, less talk; but still enough to answer your questions.  Listen to Don Shor's "Jazz After Dark" here on KDRT (live Tu @ 8pm; replays M @ 11pm,  W @ 10pm).  He also blogs about many of his shows sat:  https://kdrt.org/blogs/don-shor-0

Hope you enjoy this program.

That's Jazz Again, part 2

On 2 April 2020, we replayed the second interview with Don Shor about "Women Jazz Singers".  Don continues his sharing of Jazz with post-WWII changes and the rising to prominence of women jazz singers -- in particular Ella Fitgerald, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, and Sara Vaughn.  This show has lots MORE music and far less talk.  This episode was originally broadcast on Thursday, 15 February 2018, and you can find the original at: https://kdrt.org/audio/jazz-part-2-women-jazz-singers-back-back-shows-do...

That's Genealogy Again

On 19 March, we replayed a recent interview with Sue Torgeson about GENEALOGY -- aka Family History.

Today "Genealogy" means the same as "Family History".  That is, discovering who your ancestors are, where they lived, and (hopefully) find stories to flesh out the  bare bones of the past. Today Lois Richter and Sue Torguson suggest how to get started, where and how to organize your data, some resource ideas, and they share personal stories from their own explorations of years gone by.  Featured are the local Davis Genealogy Club and the worldwide place to share your work FamilySearch.org/tree/ as well as regional and topical groups and clubs.

That's the Senior Center again

This week is a repeat of the 10/24/2019 show about the Davis Senior Center.

--------------------------------------------

STATION CLOSED!   NO MORE LIVE ON-AIR EPISODES NOW.  So unless (until?) Lois can get it together to create radio programs at home, KDRT will be re-playing some "That's Life" older episodes in this timeslot.  Lois is fine.  That's Life is planned to be created at home in the future.  Support for KDRT is always welcome.

That's CoViD19 on March 5th

CoViD-19 intro and general info ...

Today's show is meant to inform listeners of the true information about the current medical crisis -- Coronavirus Disease 2019 (CoViD-19) -- without panic, rumors, or sales pitches. (There's too much mis-information out in the world already!)  For accurate and current info, I recommend the website of the CDC -- Centers for Disease Control -- at:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/

That's Juli Patten

Today Lois is away, so guest host Beth Post interviews Juli Patten -- a Pastoral Intern at Davis Lutheran Church.  Having been thru the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley (California), she is in Davis for a year to complete her study for ordained ministry.  Since Juli is originally from Hawaii, she and Beth have LOTS to talk about!  Juli is a retired school teacher, a mother, and a newlywed.  Beth is the host of the internationally popular KDRT show "Na Mele O Hawai'i" and is sitting for Lois while she is getting retinal surgery. (Which, by the way, was successful and is being recovered from quite well.)

That's Rocky Mountain High

A few of you were around in the  70s and 80s and knew John Denver.  For you, here are some of his early songs.

Some other listeners have never even HEARD of John Denver!  For you, here is an introduction to one of the most influential singers of his time.  I've included some history of John as well as some of his music.

Today's songs are from his famous  "Rocky Mountain High" album.  (The CD was published by RCA, from recording of the 1972 album by BMG Music.)
